The pop icon, known for reinventing herself over six decades, was left speechless when she learned a 15-year-old girl was her granddaughter.

Former model Kayti Edwards says she broke the news to Cher personally last year, telling the singer during an emotional phone call that her teenage daughter, Ever, was conceived during a brief involvement with Cher’s son, Elijah Blue Allman, 49, back in 2010. The singer has reportedly filed for conservatorship amid her son’s recent hospitalization and arrests.

The story began quietly unraveling in 2021, when Elijah suffered a drug overdose and told his now-estranged wife, Marieangela King, that he had a child. That admission eventually made its way through the family until Cher picked up the phone and called Edwards herself.

“She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk,” Edwards told The Sun. “When she heard the news, she was speechless. Cher told her family, ‘Oh my God, I’m finally a grandma.'”

The disclosure arrived at a particularly turbulent moment. Just one day earlier, Cher filed legal documents in court seeking an emergency conservatorship over Elijah, her son with the late rock musician Gregg Allman.

The filings describe a man in serious crisis, currently held in a psychiatric facility, whose circumstances have “significantly deteriorated” since Cher first pursued conservatorship two years ago.

The documents detail a frightening episode in which Elijah was discovered unconscious behind the wheel of a car, blocking traffic, and had to be revived with Narcan at a hospital.

Cher writes that her son “has no concept of money, is unable to manage his financial resources, and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence.”

Court papers indicate he owes a drug dealer $18,000 and was forced to borrow money from an acquaintance to protect himself from potential harm. Unpaid taxes have swelled to $200,000.

His behavior at hotels and rental properties has led to bans and mounting bills. According to the filings, Cher says Elijah owes $50,000 from a single Airbnb stay after destroying the property.

Cher also has another son from her marriage to Sonny Bono, Chaz Bono, who recently tied the knot on March 8, 2026.
