I mean…baking aside, could he not have also done art as a hobby? lol
And it makes sense to prepare and have come up with clever ways like this to survive if you end up getting reaped if you aren’t good at fighting, even if it isn’t your job.
Hasn’t he been saying this for the past 14 years? That he thought that scene was stupid? Personally I thought the Rue being killed scene was stupid and I am still traumatized to this day from that scene.

Peta was hoping to get a job baking on Panem’s version of “Is It Cake?” but then he got selected for the Hunger Games instead.
Peeta missed his chance to be a Hollywood make-up artist, it’s tragic
It was in the books, wasn’t it, that his years of helping decorate cakes made him really good? Or am I misremembering?
He learned how to paint by icing/decorating the cakes in the bakery. Not from bread.
in the book, katniss mentions him learning about camouflage in the training sessions 🤪 I think he likes it bc it reminds him of decorating cakes at the bakery? but I could be misremembering
I mean we see him painting his arm during training so it doesn’t come from nowhere, the silliness is just his help I’m hurt Katniss face while looking like the most dehydrated rock on the pond
I also always laugh at the scene, which may be book only I can’t remember where Katniss is hyping Peta up and she says “he can throw a bag of flour right over his head!” and every time I chuckle about how random that sounds in a situation where people are going to be hunting each other and many have been training for years.
Eh, I see both sides. His art isn’t as present in the films as it is in the books, but it’s still a pretty big plot point, it’s even what games him a high danger score before the third Quarter Quell. And it’s kind of funny to think that writing “Happy Birthday Kelly!” on a cake translates to this.
That being said, this isn’t really “painting” it’s like legit movie grade prosthetic work. The logistics of him doing it in that particular scenario are the most ridiculous part though, the planning, precision, and TIME that it would take are ridiculous.
I didn’t watch these movies till fairly recently but was familiar with this image. I assumed it was some dumb sequel or part three shit. I was shocked when it happened pretty quickly in the first one lol.
That is actually my face when someone at work makes me do something I know is going to turn out poorly despite my protests.
“They let it happen to me” lmaoooooo
Thank you, Josh.
It made perfect sense to me in the book at the time but I fucking LOST IT when I saw the scene in the film
Lmaooo
I do love the implications that people in the seam wanted hyper realistic looking cakes a la “is it cake”
He must have something coming out soon bc there has been a lot of JH content lately
“You know who else thought his disguise as a rock made no sense? My partner: Jorge Santiago, and his wife, belly swollen with child.”
Someone hasn’t seen Is This Cake?
This is easily the funniest moment in a dead serious dystopian movie.
It’s iconic. The movie would be worse without that scene.
i think the problem was that they made it SO over the top with the rock make up.
if he used his decorating skills to make a pile of leaves and give himself a mottled shadow pattern paint effects that would have been less ridiculous. like paint himself multicolor to make a rock crevice look empty, not full on perfect rock texture in bright sunlight.
I can believe that decorating cakes made him also good at painting, and that given loads of time and resources in the training centre he could do a really good job. But in the arena he should have just been shown dragging lots of sticks and mud and stuff over himself 😂
I remember thinking it was pretty dumb when reading the book but onscreen it was 1000x funnier
I think the issue was more the visuals.
When you look at real animals hiding in nature, a lot of them aren’t crazy-CGI “genuinely a rock with two eyes” like this post’s screenshot, but it’s like “dark stripes make them less visible in long foliage” or “color very close to the land’s” etc.
In the book it WAS believable enough to me, because I didn’t think he’d turned into a goddamn rock with 500dpi tiny cracks and shit painted on.
Because he used to decorate cakes for his parents at the bakery, he transferred those skills over to the rock incident
