In this first picture we have the working royals, almost all ancient relics. And then in the second pic we see Queen Elizabeth II’s grandchildren. Only one is a working royal. What is going on lmao, I get that Peter Phillips & Zara Tindall are untitled, but four male line grandchildren of the monarch, two princesses and a lady and earl entitled to use the princess and prince title if they wish not being utilised seems rather a waste? Beatrice has been known to occasionally step in if William & Kate or the dinosaurs are unavailable, but that’s it? Really?

To be fair, no one became a working royal because it was believed Harry and his wife would be working royals… we saw how that has ended up lol. Most other royal families have the monarch + heir as working royals, but then again, no other royal family has the reach like the BRF so.
Beatrice and Eugenie will never be working royals now. Ever. Neither will anyone else – Zara and Peter have lived 40+ years as private citizens who happen to be the children of Princess Anne. Louise and James are enjoying a young life away from the spotlight.
I think they’re just waiting for William’s kids to grow up and that’ll be the next generation of working royals. Until then… we’ve got two in their 40s and everyone else in their late 70s+.
The fact that it was a school day today for George, Charlotte and Louis?
Agreed. It’s not a good look. Even William looks miserable. Also the two that are sitting down don’t work* anymore so I’m not sure where the working royals only is coming from. Miss the days where the Queens grandchildren could support the monarchy.

It gives younger ones the privacy they need, plus even if they take any missteps, the royal family won’t be dragged down by it.
Louise, James and the Wales kids were presumably in school. And then the York girls were probably not asked to attend for…. obvious reasons.
It’s sad but it’s for the best. The more people the more chance of scandal. Other royal families are often just a few people. I’d be ok with it just being the monarch tbh, like they’re the actual head of state, and the only one with an official government role that exists
Because the time of having fat royal houses is coming to end.
You’re seeing that across Europe.
You just have to look at Denmark or the Netherlands to see what the British Royal Family will look like in 10 years.
W&K as King and Queen doing a bulk of the “work” and George likely becoming a “full time” Royal closer to 30 than 20.
TBH, this picture is better than the coronation group.
What a lively bunch.
I don’t know, I’m very happy to see Princess Alexandra. I assume the children are at school.
Royalty is a completely antiquated idea and they’re not really “working” just being funded by working class people. If the UK insists on this nonsense, best to have it as small a number of people as possible.
Most extant royal families don’t keep the younger siblings and nieces/nephews/cousins/grandchildren around as working royals. I think the BRF and the Japanese are the only ones I’m aware of that have anyone but the monarch and direct heir(s) participating in so many public duties, but the Japanese Imperial family is tiny and the gender-restrictions on inheritance mean that the younger brother and the nephew will eventually inherit the throne.
Things have to change to stay relevant, and it seems pretty clear that most 21st century Brits aren’t interested in seeing the entire enormous extended family as working royals. I think it’s better in the long run: under the current model, the spares are too royal for normal jobs, but too Constitutionally unimportant to have a meaningful role within the monarchy. In the best case scenario, you have reliable stand-bys like Edward and Sophie to pad out the numbers, in the worst case scenario, you have someone like Andrew taking advantage of their title and status to do awful things.
Maybe there will be big societal changes and people will want to see Charlotte and Louis as full-time working royals in 2040, but for now, the slimmed-down model is the way to go.
Great way to symbolize how stagnant and outdated this institution is. It’s still not “slim” by monarchy standards and in 50 years time most of these people will be dead.
I don’t mind a larger monarchy, it just needs to be relevant. Currently the monarchy is not. Most people can’t even name all the folks in this picture.
