He needs to stop getting on yachts and private planes. “Short term economic gain of a wealthy few” my ass. He is the wealthy few.

  2. crookedframe13 on

He should talk to his buddy Bezos. Perhaps when he’s meeting up on the billionaires yacht again.

  3. latelyimawake on

All credibility on this issue was utterly lost when he went to Bezos’s wedding.

  4. Why didn’t he talk to his buddies about it while their yachts all gathered ominously at St. Bart’s?

The people complaining about his friendship with Bezos… isn’t it better that someone that advocates for these things is friends with the richest men in the world? I’d imagine even a smidgen of that influence would be better than nothing.

  6. This IS important idc he’s hypocrite. I made my calls this morning , I want to believe if hundreds of thousands do the same we can win. I cannot believe how backwards things are going environmentally right now, it’s truly disheartening.

  7. Everyone focused on a celebrity endorsement and why it’s bad but no one is focused on the actual endangered species act. This is why we can’t have nice things

The vote has been postponed! Washington Examiner posted an article 20 mins ago saying that it has been postponed.

  9. Ya know, shit on Leo all you want for going to bezos wedding and his private jets.

But it’s still a good thing to advocate for this stuff and bring awareness. So don’t see why we need to bring down the Endangered Species Act just because we don’t like Leo.

Damn the elite’s attempt to destroy political efficacy in America is going really well judging by these comments

As the biggest Bezos hater of all time, it’s really annoying that people in the comments are dismissing this and ignoring the actual issue to dunk on Leo for being a hypocrite. Exhausting.

  12. Honest question please don’t downvote me into oblivion but huge stars like him, are they supposed to take commercial planes when they get mobbed by crazy fans? What about Taylor Swift? I don’t like private jets either I just don’t know what the alternative is.

Reddit: Celebrities should use their platform to speak out.

Also Reddit: its annoying when celebrities I don’t like speak out.

Edit: I don’t give a shit about Leo, but as many people as possible need to be aware of congressional actions like this. Hopefully he is also behind the scenes pressuring the Jeff Bezos of the world as well. It doesn’t need to be one or the other.  Effective political action often involves both approaches.

Fuck Jeff Bezos and Leo’s other rich friends for sure but i didn’t know about this vote was coming up until I saw his post so overall I’m glad he posted about it.

I’m gonna call my garbage ass rep about it because even tho he already announced that he intended to oppose the bill I want him to know I’m glad he’s doing something good for once lol

  15. Omg he raises awareness and you people still complain, my goodness, anyways I’m calling

take a shot every time you see someone here use some variation of the word buddy in their comment

  17. Why does DiCaprio campaigning for endangered animals get all the Bezos comments, but Perry dating the blackface PM gets just yaslighting lmao

  18. Good for him

Obviously he’s not a perfect example of eco friendliness but when someone does something in support, especially someone with influence, I’m happy to applaud him. Vast majority of the upper class will, as usual, be staying silent.

AND I’m sure most of us here wouldn’t even know about the vote if it weren’t for his post.

I’m curious for the people here just criticizing him, is your only participation in Earth Day today complaining about someone who posted in support?

For fucks sake. Why am I hearing about this from DiCaprio and not the news?

I might be wrong, but I believe the ESA is the strongest piece of environmental legislation we have. Lots of projects get ground to a halt during environmental assessment (NEPA being the other strongest) because of endangered species. Whether a project that has a net environmental good should be scrapped because of some rare mouse is another story, but they’re only gutting the ESA so they can ram through pipelines or some shit. All because the fossil fuel industry is built on scarcity and propped up by subsidies otherwise it would not be profitable at all.

I am still mad at DiCaprio for being a massive hypocrite but at least he’s finally using his platform for something worthwhile and not just telling us all that climate change is bad (we know!) for the millionth time.

What a lot of people won’t acknowledge is that private jets are extremely expensive and rare. So much so that all the carbon emissions produced by private jets make up like less than 1% of all carbon emissions during commercial air travel.

You can call him a hypocrite but the fact of the matter is that his using or not using a private jet (or all billionaires not using a private jet) will make absolutely zero difference to the climate crisis either way.

To make any real impact, millions of normal people will have to make sacrifices.

It’s just a numbers game. Billionaires are simply too few to have any meaningful  macro effect on climate change no matter how lavishly and tastefully they live their lives.

The people in these posts are so bizarre that they don’t bother to do basic research and see how much his foundation has helped and invested in the preservation of endangered animals, but hating celebrities seems to be more fun.

  22. aubreejohnsonx on

I think a lot of you don’t actually care about the environment or most of the things you get outraged over. It’s like you just scroll and look for things to be mad about. It’s genuinely insufferable to be online anymore.

  23. QuietMadness on

In addition to the Instagram post he should buy as many politicians as he can to get them to vote no.

  24. citrustaxonymy on

Didn’t his buddies buy a whole president? Like maybe call your billionaire besties and get them to put their money into something important idk
