Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s flying gloves from the Falklands War are to go on sale at auction for £2,000.

The white leather gloves, which are covered in dirt from helicopter flying operations, were worn by the disgraced former prince while at the peak of his popularity during the 1982 conflict.

He signed the items and donated them to a charity auction held later that year for the Falklands Appeal & South Atlantic Fund.

They are now being sold 44 years later by a private seller and expected to fetch £1,000 to £2,000 at Reeman Dansie, auctioneers in Colchester.

The gloves come with an apology letter from Andrew’s equerry, in which he explained the prince was unable to attend the charity auction as he was spending time with Elizabeth II before she embarked on a Commonwealth tour.
