Fortnite players will be able to refund D4vd cosmetics after days of backlash, but Epic Games has not said whether the singer’s items will be fully removed from the game.

Players had been calling on Epic to remove D4vd from Fortnite after prosecutors revealed new details in the criminal case against the artist, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. Burke has pleaded not guilty after being charged with first-degree murder and other charges connected to the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

The backlash centered on D4vd’s presence in Fortnite, where he has several items tied to his music and branding. His cosmetics include the “Locked and Loaded” and “What Are You Waiting For” Jam Tracks, the Feel It and Trophy Drop emotes, and a personalized bundle that launched in April 2025.

Fortnite confirms refunds for D4vd cosmetics

On April 26, the Fortnite Status account responded to concerns and confirmed players will be able to refund the D4vd items.

“We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time,” the account said. “The first one will be available on Tuesday, April 28th, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund.”

Fortnite Status added that players do not have to wait until April 28 if they want to request a refund sooner.

“And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded,” the post continued.

However, the update does not say the items are being fully removed from Fortnite. At the time of writing, Epic has only confirmed refunds, while saying “a bunch of changes” will be rolled out over time.

That means players who bought D4vd cosmetics will be able to get their V-Bucks back, but it remains unclear whether the items will be disabled, removed from lockers, or simply kept out of future Item Shop rotations.

Burke’s attorney Blair Berk has denied the allegations against him, saying the evidence “will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death.”

Epic Games has not issued a broader statement on whether the D4vd collaboration will be removed from Fortnite entirely.
