I am always skeptical of ambitious celebrity development projects, especially if they also purport to be ethical and sustainable. Akon’s Akon City, Brad Pitt’s Make It Right New Orleans houses, etc.

I used to work in real estate development (thank God I no longer do) and its a pretty ruthless business. With large scale projects, the end product, if it even gets completed, is hardly ever the beautiful, utopian vision that is initially sold.

All I can think about when I see Idris Elba mentioned is that weird gold documentary Dan Olson made a video about.

After Akon’s similar ambitions for Senegal which ended up a corrupt disaster, I’m a little sceptical. But Idris Elba seems to have a better business sense and advisors, so I’m hoping for the best for them.

After the fake gold documentary he made I have trouble believing this thing will ever exist as anything other than fraud

I mean it is a decent thing to do but 9 out of 10 times when a famous person does this it fails quite badly. Plus Sierre Leone? I guess they got the land cheap. Not a nice place to go.

    9. Let me call Clay Davis for the development grants, I hear he’s cheap. Stringer knows of him

Yeah, considering all the other failed celebrity housing projects, I’mma believe it when I see it. Nice thought, though.

I hope they’ve connected with John and Hank Green, who recently helped open the first NICU in Sierra Leone earlier this year.
