First lady Melania Trump is slamming ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel for on-air comments he made about her on his show merely two days before a gunman opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The incident happened during the April 23 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where he made a mock skit about the dinner and said of the first lady, “You have a glow like an expectant widow.” Now that joke has drawn more attention with the first lady calling for action from ABC, the Disney owned network that airs his show. In her four-paragraph statement shared on X, she claimed Kimmel’s “hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country.” She then added, “enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand.” The first lady didn’t specify which of Kimmel’s jokes she was specifically referring to, but later President Donald Trump called out the “expectant widow” line directly in a Truth Social post adding, “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.” All of this comes six months after the network pulled Kimmel off the air for nearly a week after a monologue about the death of Charlie Kirk. Access Hollywood reached out to ABC and Disney and have not heard back yet.

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, but if this was any other president than Trump, Kimmel joking about the First Lady soon becoming a widow would certainly fireable behavior. It definitely speaks not only to how people feel about Trump and the role of the president in the United States, but also to the political divide in America when people not only laugh but CHAMPION their political opponents being shot and killed.
Same behavior with Charlie Kirk. Man had a ton of offensive opinions and remarks, but never sought political office to carry them out, just spoke as a representative of a certain demographic of the country. And when he died, it became a point of celebration. People THRILLED a man they didn't like was murdered. Yet the same crowd mourned the capture of Maduro and the bombing of the Ayatollah.
Not agreeing with any one side, just saying that those attempting to moralize and hold others to a higher standard of ethics probably shouldn't be throwing parades over elected officials while weeping over the detainment or deaths of actual tyrants.
