Kinda crazy how that story spiraled so quickly out of control. One tik-toker pushes a fake story for views(admitted by brekkie), and suddenly *EVERYONE* believes it and nothing is “too mean” to say to Barry.
Can’t even explain how many people I saw “jokingly” calling for his *death*.

This is not specific to Sabrina (I’m going to get downvoted to absolute hell by all the standoms for this one anyway), but I’ve come to the conclusion that cultivating a massive fan base ought to come with the massive responsibility to engage with them responsibly.
And absolutely, babe, your fave is the exception (🙄), but inciting people to parasocial psychosis and then sitting there in silence while they drive people underground or into mental health crises is really shitty behavior.

It’s crazy how society treats people who they consider “ugly”.
That’s why I’m always iffy about making art to trash your ex. Unless there’s evidence of them being a horrible human, you’re just setting them up for years of hate and painting a narrative they can never reject, amend or control.
You should listen to Barry on Louis Theroux’s podcasts. In recent years he also had an infection so bad that he came close to dying or at best losing an arm, and only just managed to make it through it with a huge scar on his arm.
The mental toll of his background and story through to fame through to the streak of bad luck he is having while having great luck in other areas much be so hard to grapple. He’s such a rarity in the industry of someone from a truly poor background, without famous relatives, full of talent that I want to see more of. He’s exactly the kind of person I want getting more opportunities and to see being discouraged is awful. It’s a miracle he’s been able to get a foot in the door of Hollywood. I’m rooting for him
People’s vitriol towards him is crazy. Especially about his looks.
I think people forget how much of a disadvantaged background this guy comes from. He comes from one of the poorest areas in Dublin and lived in foster care. He is an example of a non nepo baby with real talent and he’s treated like he doesn’t deserve to exist by some people, because he doesn’t look Hollywood enough?
Saw some posts that were just straight up savage about his face. They just seemed so mean and nasty. Yes he is unique looking but fuck people are insane.

Maybe they disagree on what the definition of cheating is. Some people thinks cheating is only intercourse and some think it’s sliding in someone’s DMs.
People are going to grill me over this but I think SC allowed this behavior, the music video with Dolly Parton where they promote gender violence is truly appalling to see, but most people don’t mind because haha it’s happening to a man and haha it’s white sexy women committing the crime.

That being said, he was absolutely *excellent* in The Peaky Blinders movie.
Reminds me of Miley Cyrus her massive hit, Flowers. Fans made this whole narrative of her singing in the mansion where her ex husband took his mistresses to cheat on her. How he cheated on her in general. How he was emotionally abusive. Despite Miley, at the time of their divorce, saying the contrary.
Miley knew about the rumours. Her mother(?) and sister laughed about it in a podcast. Brandi said she wouldn’t confirm or deny anything, but they joked about how it helped Miley get a hit song. Liam’s reputation is destroyed. People continue to spread the rumours. They use gifs of Liam telling her to behave for once as evidence that he was emotionally abusive. Omitting the fact that she herself admitted that she spray painted literal dicks on the walls of his house. That she got him a dick cake. That she snorted more cocaine in one night than most coke addicts see in a lifetime. How she put him through the wringer with her insane actions. But “he knew who he was dating”, and “he knew she was wild”.
Miley met him as a Disney act, with a near perfect image. She became out of control. They broke up. She reeled him back in by growing her hair out, writing songs about him. Cleaning her image up once more. Why wouldn’t he believe that this was the real her? After all, this is who he had met so many years ago. They had a shotgun marriage because their house burned down. It didn’t work out because they’re not compatible. That’s okay.
The narrative that he’s a cheater, that he brought mistresses to a mansion, that he was emotionally abusive to her, is wrong. Miley herself denied it all back in 2019. Yet, she let her fans run wild in 2023. All to get her first Grammy win. She might not be active on social media, but her family most certainly is.
The way Barry was treated was awful. His relationship with Sabrina never seemed that serious and he was unprepared for that level of press and scrutiny. I don’t know the behind the scenes, and maybe he was an asshole, but it really seemed like she reveled in this bad boy fling just to dump him and call him a manchild, and that never sat right with me. It reminded me a lot of Ariana and Pete. He’s talked about how much that hurt for her to dismiss their relationship as a casual distraction and then write a song about him that he has to hear all the time.
Look, I’m just gonna say this once, because I really like Sabrina and feel like most of the criticism she receives in undeserved, BUT;
When Man’s Best Friend was released I was certain there was going to be a backlash to the fact that she has made a “dissing the ex”-track called ‘Nobody’s Son’, when her most famous and most recent (I think?) ex is quite literally an orphan.
I feel like a lot of other pop girls would have been picked apart if they did that, and I’ve never heard anyone mention it even once.
Social media and parasocial relationships are so harming to so many in so many ways and can actually ruin lives. Lack of accountability and guidelines on ethical behaviour breeds bullying, I hate it.

I really wish people would just be normal about celebrities. The amount of hate this man gets for just existing is unreal. He’s a phenomenal actor. Why can’t we just appreciate that, without needing to scrutinize every part of his morality?
I also don’t think it’s particularly fair on Sabrina. Why should she have to be put in the position of defending a guy who obviously hurt her? Why should she have to tell people not to send her ex death threats, when people should know not to indulge in that insanity already? It’s messed up.
