Queen Camilla has been on quite the brooch kick as her trip to the United States continues. Attending King Charles’s congressional address in Washington, D.C. on April 28, she opted for an antique piece with nearly 100 years of royal history.
Camilla put the heirloom on prominent display, pairing it with an ivory coatdress complete with black topstitching. The Art Deco brooch features a rock crystal base and a diamond centerpiece, while a smattering of smaller stones appear along the trim. It previously belonged to the king’s grandmother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, also known as the Queen Mother.

The piece carries special significance, as Charles’s grandparents became the first British monarchs to visit the U.S. back in 1939. The Queen Mother was depicted in the brooch as early as the 1920s, according to Town & Country, though its exact origins are unknown. In 1927, she wore it while visiting Australia with her husband King George VI, affixing the jeweled pin to the front of her cloche.
Hours earlier, Camilla was spotted wearing Queen Elizabeth’s $2.7 million diamond brooch, the Cullinan V. Attending an event at the White House, Camilla styled the 18.8-carat heart-shaped diamond with a mint green dress, wrist-length gloves, and an asymmetrical hat.

The Cullinan V is cut from one of the world’s largest diamonds, which was discovered in South Africa in 1905. The massive gem was eventually acquired by the British royal family, who had it cut into multiple pieces, including the coveted Cullinan III and Cullinan IV diamonds.
According to jeweler Steven Stone, Queen Mary had the Cullinan V made into a platinum brooch. It was passed down to Queen Elizabeth and today, it’s considered to be one of her most valuable pieces of jewelry.

Notably, Camilla wore the Cullinan V brooch attached to her crown on Coronation Day in 2023. She also accessorized with it at a Buckingham Palace garden party in 2024.
