The opening sequence to Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been unveiled via the first three pages of its screenplay. The anticipated new Marvel adventure is due in cinemas in July and follows on from the aftermath of 2021’s No Way Home.
With the memories of Peter Parker’s loved ones now wiped in the wake of the last movie’s events, the script – released to Entertainment Weekly via director Destin Daniel Cretton – has now confirmed that events pick up nine months later.
The sequel kicks off with a new Marvel logo showing the memories that Peter now no longer shares with MJ and Ned, as the superhero reads the letter he wrote for MJ. Now “entirely alone”, according to Cretton and others’ notes, he sits in his apartment trying a web shooter he designed himself.

He gets a sharp headache as his isolation takes a “toll” on him, and also communicates with an AI assistant called EV – the “closest thing Peter has to a friend”.
Peter receives an alert reminding him to deliver flowers to May’s grave, and also finds the coffee cup MJ gave him before reading the letter. He has a homemade fabricator patch up his suit, before getting an alert from Ned, who has posted a video showing his and MJ’s first day at MIT.
Saddened they’re unaware of him now, the scene cuts to Peter on a steel beam as he watches another Ned video, declaring: “Sometimes, Spider-Man has to do the hard thing. Even if it breaks Peter Parker’s heart.”
As he reflects on living alone with the truth, he declares his love for MJ and expresses hope that she remembers deep down.

Peter then pulls the mask down of a new suit (inspired by his encounter with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spideys) and attends to an incident down below.
In other Spidey news, its been confirmed that Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan won’t be back for Brand New Day. The actor and director revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!: “He [Happy] lost his memory. I’m not part of [it], he doesn’t remember me anymore. He might meet me again someday, I don’t know.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will release on 31 July 2026. Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to buy now on Prime Video, iTunes and other digital retailers.
