Taylor Swift explains how ‘extreme’ Swifties sometimes make things ‘weird’ while decoding her signature Easter eggs and lyrics. 1. She's literally popular for this and thats why Swifties bought a thoudsand of her variants. Without them digging the lyrics, she's just another pop star

  2. I think she’s upset because she credited Joe as a cowriter on some songs on folklore and evermore (arguably a couple of her best albums) as well as a song on Midnights, and now some fans think he helped her more than just a bit. Especially since the release of TLOAS where the writing is subpar. Her songwriter is definitely her greatest pride so you know it stings. This is why you never make a man part of your brand.

  3. Saying that it's the fans who are extreme seems to take the responsibility off of her. She is the one who is known for being meticulous in dropping all the easter eggs and coded messages into her music. If the behaviour of fans has become extreme, it's because Taylor has encouraged it. I think it's a real narcissistic play to claim that you're not the driver of it all.

  4. Some(or most) of her fans are really 'extreme' indeed. They just love playing detectives, and claim each song of hers is written about her relationships and her 'frenemies'. These people are the reason that she's known by her haters as "the pop star whose entire career is based on the men she's dated". I've been a Swiftie for 12+ years, never tried to decode which song was written for whom, nor did my other Swiftie friends. I love listening to her songs because of how relatable they are: about life, relationships, friends and family. Only when I started reading comments recently, did I find out how weird these fans are and how they contribute to her receiving more hate.

  5. She said our criticisms “earn her money”. The guillotine for her and Trump couldn’t come sooner. They’re the same disease from either side of the political spectrum. One’s a wannabe dictator and the others a wannabe Marie Antoinette. As I said, the guillotine couldn’t come sooner for them or the sh**hole that bred them.

  6. I believe that some people in the comments are missing a very key element to what is being discussed here. It’s true that Taylor has encouraged fan engagement with details about her life (especially in lyrics and in music videos), and it’s true that she uses that engagement as a part of her artistry to create interest in her work. That’s something that autobiographical (or autofiction) songwriting has been doing since forever. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with fans having a laugh or being a little curious and speculating to some extents about who a certain song might be about, maybe even finding links between certain songs throughout the years. It’s more of a “wink, wink” kind of thing between the artist and the audience. But what becomes weird and toxic is becoming so obsessed with figuring out who songs are written about, dissecting them to find out what this person has done to Taylor, and then starting to harass them on social media as if you are the Inquisition trial. That’s a level of parasociality that Taylor has every right to call out and identify as not amusing for her. Because that’s not fun engagement anymore, it’s intrusion of privacy and tabloid dissecting that completely sidelines the art. Taylor, as every songwriter to ever since exist, fictionalises and embellishes reality to make it more interesting in her songs. That’s normal for an artist. But as she herself has said since probably before 1989, songs become ours the moment they become public. They’re not just about her anymore, but also about emotions that the listener feels while listening to them. All of this to say, it’s really not that hypocritical to say what she just said in this video. If people on the internet are incapable of basic comprehension skills and human decency to understand that songs are not court documents, that’s really not on her.

  7. I'm not a swiftie but I get what she said.
It's not like "she hates her fans" as people interpreted.
There is a fine line between expressing obsession in lyricism and completely tying the song to a specific person by putting the emotional core of the song to the second priority.

  8. No one can convince me this woman isn’t a narcissist. They are extreme. They publicly bully people and you say nothing. You’ve also encouraged the detective work in your music. Take responsibility and stop gaslighting ppl.
