Some of your favorite celebrities have been promoted from parents to grandparents.
A small group of those have even joined the club before reaching the age of 50. Celebs including Whoopi Goldberg, Snoop Dogg and Jim Carrey all became first-time grandparents before reaching their fifth decade.
Donny Osmond, who became a grandfather at 47 and had 16 grandchildren as of 2025, reflected on his large family and how much he loves watching his kids become parents.
“It’s such a wonderful warm feeling to see your child become a parent and to see them raise their own children and to take on the kind of family traditions that Debbie and I have started,” he told PEOPLE in 2023. “It’s such a great dynamic to see your children grow up to be parents. They graduate into that echelon of life just finding their own feet, finding their own wings.”
Here are nine celebrities who became grandparents before turning 50.

Priscilla Presley

Priscilla Presley was 44 years old when her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, whom she shared with the late Elvis Presley, welcomed her daughter, Riley Keough, in May 1989.
Following Lisa Marie’s death in January 2023, Priscilla and Keough were involved in a legal dispute over Lisa Marie’s trust. Months later, the Daisy Jones and the Six star clarified the state of her relationship with her grandma as “happy.”
“Things with Grandma will be happy,” she told Vanity Fair in an August 2023 interview. “They’ve never not been happy.”

Donny Osmond

Donny, who came from a large family, shares five sons with his wife, Debbie Osmond. The couple became grandparents in 2005 when the Donny & Marie star was 47, after his son Jeremy welcomed his own son, Dylan.
“I’m the head of the family with my wife, but I kind of take a backseat when we’re all together because I let my boys take over,” Donny told PEOPLE in 2023.
Osmond added, “I consciously make an effort to take a back seat and just be grandpa, not a celebrity, not the head of the house with my wife, none of that. It’s just like grandpa’s in the corner playing with the grandkids. That’s what I like to do.”

Emily Maynard

The Bachelorette alum Emily Maynard was 39 years old when her 20-year-old daughter Ricki Hendrick gave birth to her own daughter, Romi, in January 2026.
Hendrick originally announced she was expecting in August 2025, and the following month sarcastically shared that her mother was “so devastated” by the baby news.
“My mom is, truthfully, so devastated. She’s so upset. She’s not excited at all for me to have a baby,” she jokingly said in a video shared on her Instagram Stories, showcasing items the soon-to-be grandmother had already purchased for the baby on the way.

Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg became a grandmother for the first time on her 34th birthday in 1989. Her daughter, Alexandrea Martin Dean, welcomed her first child, Amara Skye Dean, when she was a teenager.
“It would not have been what I would have chosen for her, but at the same time, I thought, ‘What a great thing that she’s confident enough in me to tell me,’ ” Goldberg told the Los Angeles Times in 1989.
In 2022, Amara revealed to Essence that acting has never been a consideration for her because it’s Goldberg’s career.
“Me and my grandma are super close. She’s everything,” she said. “It gets frustrating because it’s like, how am I going to compete with that? But I’m lucky enough to have that.”

Jim Carrey was 48 years old when his daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, became a mom. She gave birth to her son, Jackson Riley Santana, with metal singer Alex Santana in 2010.
During a February 2020 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Bruce Almighty actor noted his grandson’s love of beating him at video games.
“He’s schooling me on the Sonic game,” said Carrey, who starred in the movie adaptations of Sonic the Hedgehog. “He’s wiping the floor with me in every respect. I get angry, and I put money in the swear jar … I finally got fed up because he likes to trash talk me too … he’s 9, it’s really scary.”

Mick Jagger welcomed his first grandchild at age 48.
His second-eldest daughter, Jade, whom he shares with ex-wife Bianca Jagger, had her first child, Assisi Jackson, in 1992.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg became a grandfather at age 43 when his son Corde Broadus welcomed his first son Zion in 2015.
“My oldest grandson Zion told me he’s the biggest star in the family. He took my Snoop Loopz box and put his own little cover on the front and made his own cereal,” Snoop Dogg said in Audible’s Words + Music: From the Streets to the Suites.
The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper added, “My grandkids are my everything, because they all individually get a piece of my heart and they’re different.”

At age 40, Dascha Polanco became a grandmother when her daughter, Dasany Kristal Gonzalez, welcomed son Dior.
“I’m sure I’m not the first or the last. There’s younger grandmas than me, but I’m still here, I’m still fly,” the Orange Is the New Black Star told PEOPLE nearly a year after his arrival about being a young grandparent. “I’m enjoying him. He’s amazing. He’s a model. Dior, he’s modeling and he’s just a blessing.”

June Shannon

June Shannon of Toddlers & Tiaras fame was just 32 when her eldest daughter, Anna Cardwell, welcomed her first child, daughter Kaitlyn.
Shannon fought her former son-in-law Michael Cardwell for custody of Kaitlyn after Anna died in December 2023 from stage 4 adrenal carcinoma.
In September 2024, a judge ruled that Shannon would retain legal and physical custody of her granddaughter.
In a July 2025 episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, 12-year-old Kaitlyn opened up about her life since living with her grandmother.
“It’s been really great here since like we won custody and stuff and I’m really happy about that,” the tween said in a confessional. “But school’s finally starting and I’m glad it’s starting because I need a break from June’s hollering.”
