Five years ago, we watched the wall-crawler nearly destroy the multiverse, team up with two of his variants from parallel worlds, and then save the day just like he knows how: by making a big, personal sacrifice. The whole world has now forgotten Peter Parker ever existed, and his friends don’t have any memories of him. Half a decade later, audiences are excited to know what will happen next, and that day is finally here.
While Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be released on Jul. 31, 2026, we already know how the movie will begin. The creative team behind the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie shared the first three annotated script pages with EW, and now they’re up for the whole world to see. Better yet, they unveil no shortage of interesting details that are bound to make fans happy.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will start with a look at Peter’s life and an action montage
Spider-Man: No Way Home culminated with Peter going to see MJ at her workplace, prepared to read her a note explaining that the two used to be a couple before the whole world forgot him. Eventually, Peter decides against this and settles for watching their friends build a life without him. Well, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will pick up nine months after the wall-crawler’s latest adventure, with Peter going over that very same note.
The Marvel Studios opening logo will showcase “the memories Peter no longer shares with Ned and MJ”, while audiences hear Peter’s voice reading the note in the background:
“Hi, my name is Peter Parker, and you don’t remember me, but I have something to tell you that’s going to sound crazy. But it’s the truth, and I know you’re going to believe me, because you’re very good at telling when I’m lying. We used to know each other. We were… together. But something bad was going to happen to the whole world. And the only way to stop it was to make everyone forget me. Including you. Because I’m not just Peter Parker. I’m Spider-Man.”
After the Marvel logo appears and throughout the voiceover, we’ll get a glimpse at Peter’s new life. He still lives in the same apartment we saw at the end of No Way Home, completely alone.
One of the script’s annotations highlights that he no longer has any Stark money or gadgets. All of his new tech will be completely made by him, including a new AI assistant called E.V. Furthermore, the genius teenager will have “a 3D-printer” on steroids capable of patching his suit. However, there’s something wrong with our friendly neighborhood hero, as he gets a “small, sharp headache” but decides to ignore it.

Peter will get a notification on his phone, revealing that Ned has published a new post. His former best friend filmed a video of his first day at MIT with MJ, and the two seem really happy. Peter smiles, “even if he’s miserable without them”.
We then cut to Peter wearing his Spider-Man costume, outside of a construction site, sitting upside down on a steel beam high above New York. He’s looking at another video published by Ned, while audiences hear the second part of the voice-over:
“Sometimes, Spider-Man has to do the hard thing, even if it breaks Peter Parker’s heart. Maybe I’ll never read this to you [MJ]. Maybe I’m just writing this for me. Maybe that’s my responsibility: to live alone with the truth. But the truth is, I love you, and I hope deep down, something inside you remembers you love me too. Or maybe not. Maybe right now I just need to be Spider-Man.”
Near the end of the voice-over, Peter will drop to a building below, put on his mask, and jump. Remember that scene in the trailer when we get a glimpse inside Peter’s mask, and his eye looks at the city while he falls? Well, this is it. The script then notes that a montage begins.

These three pages reveal a lot of interesting details. First of all, it’s clear that Peter has been sidelining his personal life and deciding to “just be Spider-Man”. Such a decision has clearly taken a big toll on him, which is why he’s having sharp headaches. This will inevitably tie into the transformation he’s about to have, which will allow him to have organic webs.
Another key detail to note is that Peter will no longer have access to any Stark tech. That means all of his new gadgets and suits will be 100% made by him, similar to how the main campaign of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 played out. But perhaps the most interesting reveal is that audiences will watch an opening montage.
Back in August 2025, it was reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would feature an opening montage showcasing the wall-crawler fighting many different villains since the end of No Way Home. With each passing battle, Peter will upgrade his suit, resulting in the final costume he sports in the trailer.
We know that the wall-crawler’s upcoming film will feature no shortage of bad guys. Tarantula, Boomerang, Tombstone, The Hand, and Scorpion are all confirmed to appear, while it’s been reported that The Enforcers, 8-Ball, and Ramrod will also have a role to play. Fans were worried the film could be getting a little too crowded for its own good, but now it seems that many of them will just show up in the opening montage.
Overall, it seems that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will waste no time in letting us know what the wall-crawler has been up to since we last saw him, while simultaneously painting a good picture of his mental health and setting the scene for the storylines to come. Fortunately, it won’t be long before we finally witness this sequence for ourselves.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on Jul. 31, 2026.
