The sketch of Hudson Williams’ Met Gala look was released and people are comparing it to the final product. What do you think?

    1. I think the proportions of the guy in the sketch are not human, so in the end, you get a squished looking version of it when you apply it to real human proportions

Expectations: my legs will look 3x longer than my torso in this

Reality: my legs actually look too small now

Sketch was better. The silhouette of the top is better. The design of the collar and pants flaps are more dramatic and makes more of a statement than the actual.

    3. it looks better at the sketch

sketches aren’t supposed to look exactly like the client regarding the bodyshape
      but
that being said – i loved this look but the jacket should’ve been longer and the pants SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAILORED i don’t understand the issue with taking time to tailor the clothes! so i guess we could say that they didn’t take the measurements into account properly, and it annoys me because at the sketch the pants fit him

The sketch looks really good, but this is what happens when you design something without taking into consideration the proportions of the person who is going to wear it 🫣

final product kinda looks like a spirit of Halloween costume version

The fabric choice for the cape was not correct, that’s for sure

The sketch looks much better but Hudson isnt built like that so it was never going to look that good. The longer collar would have been nice though.

I wish the bottom was a massive skirt or something. It would have been better without the makeup and hair too.

    8. If he wore a heel or platform shoe it might’ve worked better? Also the black train material looks cheap

The rise is long like they need pulling up lol

There would have been multiple fittings I’m sure and would have had a seamstress for alterations as well on hand the day of probably

The issue I have is the collar drama being reduced, the fly front detail changing to plain black and odd placement of cape. Love the jacket thought

it’s a terrible look from sketch to execution, it doesn’t even look to be hemmed properly

Looks like a garment someone on Project Runway made in less than 24 hours.

It looks like a very bad, very rushed, very mediocre Project Runway flop design and execution.

The cape (or train) looks like it was added on last minute, that’s no drama to it, it just….lays there.

    14. The big collar and the detail on the waist would have been nice in the final product and I do think the jacket and shirt should have been tailored better along with the pants to match closer the original image. Also the draping of the train in the sketch seems slightly more dramatic/full rather than looking like the top sheet got stuck in his underwear band while getting out of bed. Might be the angle though.

Its not horribly executed, but yeah could have done with some slightly better finishing touches.

I appreciate that he didn’t look boring, he did what he could with what he was given.

To get closer to the vision, this needed at least different fabric choices, some very high heels to change the proportions, tailoring for the body. The taller collar should have been kept and the train is just sad.

    16. AnxiousKettleCorn on

Obviously with the sketch having different proportions, its going to look different.

..but the tailoring? It kinda looks frumpy. In the sketch, the waist flaps look angled too, but its not been translated onto the actual fit?

Did they get it from Temu? The sketch looks fantastic but the execution is very poor.

    18. Princess__Buttercup_ on

The tailoring is poor – agree the fabric is wrong but the tailoring around the crotch and arms makes this not work more than anything else

I appreciate his effort and his willingness to just go for it, but this look is a mess for me

The trousers are cut too low. They drew the sketch as if the person is wearing high rise trousers but they designed them to be low rise. Cutting them low bisects the body in a very inelegant way and leaves that awkward negative space where his skin is exposed. It also prevents the pants from properly draping which undermines the fluidity they tried to accomplish.

The top is also cut too small, shoulders need maybe another inch on both sides to give it the upside V the sketch has. You can tell cause the fabric puckers around the shoulder and elbow. Good idea but not a great execution, him being as hot and charismatic as he is though helps the fit.

The sketch looks great. The execution was a miss
-Pants needed proper tailoring. They are way too long on him.
      -Crotch is hanging too long
-Jacket should’ve been more cropped & pants should’ve sat a bit higher on waist
-They should’ve made the collar longer and standing like it is in the sketch, to elongate the overall look
-Adding some structure into the shoulders could’ve helped as well
Also, the hair and especially the MU don’t go with this look at all, they should’ve scrapped that
