Raw star GUNTHER showed up on SmackDown last week to attack WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and put him to sleep. A lot of wrestling fans wondered if this was related to the favor that Paul Heyman owes the Ring General.

Sure enough, Heyman appeared on SmackDown tonight (May 8), where he had a chat with GM Nick Aldis about GUNTHER officially joining the blue brand. Just as the Career Killer was about to sign a contract, though, his time was interrupted by Cody Rhodes entrance. That didn’t sit well with GUNTHER, who also didn’t appreciate Aldis giving him lip about his actions last week. As a result, GUNTHER refused to sign the contract because he doesn’t do business like this.

Heyman jumped in and said he would take care of the situation. He did so by going down to the ring and handing the contract to Rhodes for a WWE championship match against GUNTHER on May 31 at Clash in Italy. Heyman said he paid off his favor to GUNTHER by setting that contract up, but it’s up to Rhodes to get the Ring General to sign it. Along the way, Paul denied that he is now GUNTHER’s advocate.

Before Heyman left the ring, Rhodes brought up how the Wise Man no longer has Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, or CM Punk by his side. Cody point blank asked Paul if the reason why they are standing in the ring together is because Heyman has run out of options. Paul quickly countered by saying he’s not the one who is running out of options. He then left Rhodes with the following words to chew on: “Sooner or later, they all need the Wise Man.”

That sure sounds like a spoiler for Cody Rhodes’ eventual heel turn and alliance with Heyman, but perhaps there is another meaning behind Paul’s cryptic message.

The segment ended with Rhodes fighting off another ambush attempt from GUNTHER, but without the contract for Clash in Italy being signed just yet.

What the heck do you think Paul Heyman is talking about? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
