Alan Carr has claimed he has sworn off love and romance, declaring: “That’s it. No more sex. Shop’s closed.”
The comedian, who won last year’s smash hit first series of Celebrity Traitors, had previously declared that he hoped to find love in 2026, but in a new interview has walked back on his statement.
“I’ve got no more romance in me. I’ve had enough. Done at 50. That’s it. No more sex. Shop’s closed, gone,” he told The Telegraph. “I might as well chemically castrate myself.”
Carr added that he no longer uses dating apps, before seeming to come around – mid-conversation – to the idea of meeting “the one”.
“Listen, if I’m up in Scotland… remember that film Mrs Brown with Judi Dench falling in love with Billy Connolly? If that happens, if I’m riding on a horse and some fit Scottish man in a kilt comes out and scoops me up, I wouldn’t say no.”

Carr is currently spending time in Scotland, having bought a £3.25m castle in the Scottish Borders, which comes with 17 bedrooms. The purchase serves as the premise for a new Disney+ reality series starring Carr – titled Castle Man – in which he will redecorate his new home.
The 49-year-old, who for eight years hosted the hit chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man for Channel 4, was previously married to actor and comedian Paul Drayton. They were together for 10 years before marrying in 2018, but announced their separation in 2022.
In 2023, Carr joked that he was in a “slaggy phase” following his divorce, and during an episode of his Life’s a Beach podcast asked the Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears if he “knew anyone” he could date. “I want to be a slag,” Carr joked. “But to be a slag you need someone to be slaggy with.”

Carr and Drayton were married by the pop star Adele in Los Angeles in 2018. The singer became ordained so she could marry the pair.
Announcing their split, a spokesperson for the pair said: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating. They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways.”

In an appearance on the panel of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown after the split, Carr joked that he got “custody of Adele” while Drayton got “custody of Gok Wan during the weekends”.
Whatever the condition of Carr’s love life, he’s at least not struggling for employment at the moment. Following the success of his stint on Celebrity Traitors, Carr has presented the Channel 4 game show Secret Genius and further series of his home decoration show Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job alongside Amanda Holden. He was also one of the stars of Prime Video’s LOL: Last One Laughing UK.
