The planned match order for the WWE Backlash 2026 premium live event in Tampa, Florida tonight, May 9, has now emerged.
With five matches on the card as well as the “history-making” John Cena announcement, the order in which each item will take place has been revealed, at least according to WWE’s plans ahead of the show.
Already known ahead of time was that the Bron Breakker vs Seth Rollins and Trick Williams vs Sami Zayn would matches would air in the first hour of the show on ESPN2, with the remainder of the show behind the paywall of the ESPN app.
PWInsider Elite reports the following planned order of events for WWE Backlash about 90 minutes out from showtime:
Bron Breakker vs. Seth Rollins – Singles Match
Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn – United States Championship
Danhausen & Mystery Partner vs. Kit Wilson & The Miz – Tag Team Match
Asuka vs. IYO SKY – Singles Match
John Cena makes a “history-making” announcement
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu – World Heavyweight Championship
As always, things are subject to change, but that is the current planned match order as things stand ahead of the show.
WWE Clash In Italy 2026 Plans After Backlash
The next WWE PLE coming up after Backlash will be Clash In Italy in Turin on Sunday, May 31.
We already know after SmackDown last night that Cody Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship match against GUNTHER – a match set up by Paul Heyman as his favor to GUNTHER.
Roman Reigns is also being advertised for Clash In Italy, though he doesn’t have a clear challenger assuming he retains against Jacob Fatu as the likely name for that spot, GUNTHER, was shifted to the Rhodes match instead.
One possibility is LA Knight, who expressed interest in a World Title match recently, or Oba Femi, but it seems like WWE would want Reigns vs Femi on a bigger stage like SummerSlam or even next year’s WrestleMania.
