Lara Trump has criticized the Met Gala and joked that her family’s invite must have “got lost in the mail.”

On Monday, May 4, Vogue assembled Hollywood’s elite, including Madonna, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashion’s most prestigious annual event.

Noticeably absent from the iconic museum steps was the entire Trump family, and now President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, 43, appears to harbor resentment as she delivered a scathing assessment of the “freak show” during a Fox News appearance with Laura Ingraham on May 5. It comes after Lara slammed Jimmy Kimmel’s recent joke about Melania Trump.

During her chat with Laura, The Ingraham Angle host sarcastically suggested Lara was “crushed” by the snub, she quipped, “He can barely function for sure. I’m sure this is very devastating to the president.”

Although Eric Trump’s wife has never attended the Met Gala, she recalled it was once a “very elegant and kind of regal in some ways affair.” Now, however, Lara claimed it has “devolved into a bit of a freak show,” reports Irish Star.

The television personality didn’t just target the event itself, but also its guests, whom she characterized as “the biggest group of hypocrites you are ever going to see.”

“All these people want to seem to do is preach to us, show us how morally superior they are,” she declared, before noting “people are not very interested in going to see their movies.”

She argued that celebrities’ lavish appearances at the Met Gala have diminished their capacity to relate to ordinary people, stating, “When this is the way you present yourself, I just don’t think the average American has any way whatsoever to relate to you.”

While wrapping up her comments by noting, “I don’t think the president has lost any sleep over it,” and “I can promise nobody in our family is very concerned,” she offered one last justification for the Trump family’s absence from this year’s Met Gala.

“I’m sure we all got invited, they just got lost in the mail,” Lara said.

Anna Wintour has publicly acknowledged barring only one individual from the event. During a 2017 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the Vogue editor confirmed she had banned the president.

Multiple Trump family members have attended the Met Gala in the past, with the high-profile event notably serving as the backdrop for Melania and Donald’s engagement in 2004. However, their attendance has been sparse since the president began his political career.

Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, were the most recent family members to attend the Met Gala, making their last visit in 2016, just months before the president’s first inauguration.
