This week’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire saw a cracking round for Market Harborough resident Andrew Fanko, who walked away with a £500,000 jackpot as his wife Frankie watched from the audience.

However, once he reached the final round which would have won him a staggering million-pound prize, Andrew told presenter Jeremy Clarkson his time on the ITV quiz show was over.

Asking the audience didn’t provide much help, with most of those in the studio split between two options. Though he was leaning towards one answer, he explained: “There’s absolutely no chance I’m risking that amount of money.”

“I will very, very gratefully take my half a million pounds,” he added with a sigh of relief. “And that is my final answer.”

For those who missed it, here’s the question Andrew refused to answer which could have made him a millionaire.

Before Andrew’s exit, Jeremy confessed he might have been a help had the contestant not used the Ask the Host lifeline for a different question.

“The actual answer is a man I’m going on holiday with next month,” the presenter revealed. “Andrew Lloyd Webber. We sit at his house every year and do the Oscars.”

Lloyd Webber has won a Primetime Emmy Award, three Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and six Tony Awards. He won his Oscar in 1996 for Best Original Song for You Must Love Me in the Madonna starring musical film Evita.

He has been nominated for an Academy Award on two more occasions, the first in 1973 for Best Score (Jesus Christ Superstar), and another Best Original Song nod for Learn to Be Lonely in the 2004 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.

Speaking exclusively to Reach, Andrew shared that he has no regrets for deciding not to hazard a guess in the final round.

“Not at all, no,” he said. “Our situation has been pretty tough for the last couple of years with work, so whatever I had I was going to hold unless I was really confident of it. And I just wasn’t. So, I was fine.”

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire airs Sundays at 7pm on ITV and can be streamed on ITVX.
