Express readers have had their say on how good a job King Charles is doing after three years on the throne. The monarch was crowned on May 6, 2023, eight months after officially becoming King on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Charles assumed the throne at the age 73 after spending 70 years as the heir apparent, the longest in history, giving him ample time to prepare for the role.

Express readers appear to share the view of broadcaster Piers Morgan, who heaped praise on the monarch after his masterful speeches during his four days in the UK. Mr Morgan described the monarch’s speeches to Congress and a White House dinner as “the most brilliant act of much-needed diplomacy that I can remember in a long time”.

Mr Morgan added: “He was charming, funny courageous, and reminded everyone why the monarchy remains one of Britain’s greatest assets.”

“Couldn’t have put it better myself,” the Express reader wrote. “Long live our King.”

Another added: “His mother and the King are two very different [people] and represent Britain in very different times. I do think the King is underestimated! He is a King for this time and he does his job according to today’s needs.”

A third reader said: “Our King is certainly doing an excellent job and [while] suffering from cancer continues to perform his royal duties; an example to our youth.”

In a Truth Social post, the US President said that while “people have wanted to do this for a long time”, the King and Queen “got me to do something that nobody else was able to do”.

In response, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson thanked Mr Trump for his “thoughtfulness and generous hospitality”, describing the trip as “most enjoyable for both their majesties”.
