EXCLUSIVE: Matt Bomer (Outcome, Fellow Travelers) has joined Season 2 of Peacock and Sky’s spy thriller drama The Day of the Jackal as a recurring opposite star Eddie Redmayne. Details about Bomer’s character are being kept under wraps but I hear he is playing a villain.
On Season 2 of The Day of the Jackal, which has started production in Budapest, Bomer joins fellow new cast additions Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber who had been cast as series regulars.
Based on the Frederick Forsyth novel and the 1973 film adaptation from Universal, The Day of the Jackal follows an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne), who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee.
Season 1 earned multiple Golden Globe and Actor nominations and was a ratings hit on both sides of the pond. It launched as a Top 5 streaming original drama in the U.S. for its opening weekend, according to Nielsen, and logged a 28-day audience of 4.6m in the UK, the largest ever for a new Sky series.
The Day of the Jackal is produced by Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, and is commissioned by Sky Studios and Peacock. It is executive produced by Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Marianne Buckland (Carnival Films), Redmayne, writer David Harrower, director Brian Kirk, Sam Hoyle (Sky Studios), Sue Naegle, and Ronan Bennett. Lis Steele serves as producer.
White Collar alum Bomer is currently seen in Jonah Hill’s Apple TV movie Outcome opposite Keanu Reeves, Hill and Cameron Diaz. He recently starred in the Hulu drama pilot Foster Dade, from Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran, and the streamer’s comedy series Mid-Century Modern, from Max Mutchnick, David Kohan and Ryan Murphy. Bomer’s many collaborations with Murphy include HBO’s The Normal Heart, which landed the actor an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe win. He also earned an Emmy and Globe nominations for the Showtime limited series Fellow Travelers. Bomer’s whose credits also include HBO Max series Doom Patrol and the Magic Mike movie franchise, is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
