The woman who built Euphoria’s aesthetic and never got the credit. Petra Collins built the world. She did the casting. And then HBO told her she was too young – and made the show anyway, with everything she had created.

    1. This would drive me crazy if it happened to me. It’s just terrible they took her ideas and then seemingly shut her out

However much you hate Sam Levinson, it’s not enough

      Such a gross, slimey dude

Didn’t this happen to The Idol as well? It had an entirely different plot with a female director about the pressures of a child star transitioning into an adult pop star and then Sam Levinson took over with the Weeknd and turned it into a sloppy, incoherent over-sexualised mess. Man just loves swooping in and making things worse.

Which is crazy cos Petra Collins was already pretty huge anyway. The audacity of men.

The show is literally wasted aesthetic creativity in a weird polluted teenage fantasy by a weird man

I remember when she was big on tumblr, photographing Diana Veras and Barbie F. Pretty sad what HBO did to her.

    7. she’s been shooting the best editorials and music videos for years and years.

I remember Petra Collins from Rookie Mag back in like 2012 lol. This is not surprising but such a bummer..

    9. what the actual fuck does “too young” mean anyway?

I bet Sam Levinson doesn’t even miss a wink of sleep, and actually thinks of himself as talented and visionary. I hope someone calls him a fraud to his face one day.

This should be widespread knowledge everywhere. Sam Levinson is a Hack. He tried to do something similar by taking over *The Idol* (originally an Amy Seimetz project), but put too much of his own spin on it, thus butchering it.

    11. Imagine pouring your heart and soul into your work and having it all given away to some lazy entitled dullard, just because his dad directed Rain Man in the eighties. And it’s happened twice!

    12. This is so upsetting and not at all surprising. And the worst part is the impact on her and her creative vision going forward because the aesthetic universe she created and invested so much time and work into is now tainted and she has to basically pivot through no fault of her own. Fuck HBO and Sam Levinson. What would this show have been if she stayed?

Ah yes the long honored tradition of the Matilda Effect plaguing women throughout time!

    14. I interviewed her in like 2014-15 for a UK-based culture magazine. She knew more about grime and emerging drill culture than some of the drill and grime artists I interviewed in the months and years prior. She is an absolu cultural sponge, she can absorb, assess, and re-create something an incredibly authentic and genuine way, like she has a direct pipeline straight into her soul

Sam Levinson will never be half of what his father is and I hope he spends the rest of his life getting smacked in the face by that fact.

She’s awesome. I lived in Toronto from 2008-2015 and was in the arts scene, and she was already a big name back then. Sad to see this
