    1. Or Colonel shows up unannounced

      Boy, my dad had a great laugh with the colonel, whom is his best friend since high school. Dad was rank of captain and his buddy is colonel. He served in Vietnam war with two tours. Dad volunteered few years later.

      When somebody reported to colonel about my dad, colonel would say “he’s just doing a job nobody wants to do. You’re dismissed.”

      I knew he was looking after my dad for hard work he did, some were overwhelming but dad did his job, may appreciate and some reported him.

      Dad had to square away all the mistakes the lieutenant or Sargent major made, it was dad’s job and he loved it for 16 years.

      One day I had Colonel as my babysitter with his wife and two kids, I played with his kids with green plastic army men.

      Every solider walked into office with all of us, him behind desk working on paperwork. They automatically stand position and salute, me and my buddies stood up and salute to join the soldier/officers before the colonel. He finds it humorous and say only at me and his kids;

      “boys you are dismissed. Keep on fighting the enemies

      We resume played with the military toys while officers/soldiers report anything that requires colonel’s attention.

      Being kid, I had no idea I was in same room with highest ranking officer I been close to in my whole life. I knew he was my dad’s best friend and I was safe with his kids in that office until my dad came and took me back home.

      Being in military, everyone looked out for each others and show support, the only time when men want see other men become successful.
