Wanting to catch a movie this weekend but struggling to find something amid the endless choice of streaming? No need to fear, as we’re here to wade through some of the best new additions that you should keep an eye out for.
Among this week’s fresh highlights are Pierce Brosnan’s best James Bond movie – in our humble opinion – as well as Florence Pugh’s breakout role from a decade ago.
Digital Spy has rounded up five of the best, plus a few more highlights on Netflix, BBC iPlayer and more.

Best movie new to Netflix this week
Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025): If horror is up your street, then we’d recommend this recent festive slasher flick from the Silent Night franchise.
Released last year, the movie is a reimagining of the 1984 film of the same name and follows Billy Chapman, who takes on a grisly sense of justice every Christmas while dressed up as Father Christmas. It all stems from witnessing his parents’ horrific murder at the hands of Santa.
Directed by Mike P Nelson, Common Sense Media suggested this entry is “easily the best in the entire gruesome Silent Night franchise”.

Altitude Films
Best movie new to Prime Video this week
Lady Macbeth: Florence Pugh first made a name for herself with her “astounding” (via Spotlight on Film) central performance in this 2016 drama.
The film, adapted from a novel by Nikolai Leskov – itself inspired by the famous Shakespeare character – follows Pugh’s character Katherine Lester as she is stuck in a loveless and abusive marriage with an older man. She then begins an affair with a man her age.
Cosmo Jarvis and Naomi Ackie also feature in the movie, which is directed by William Oldroyd.
Also new to Prime Video this week: Halloween (2018), Annihilation, Sliding Doors, Mr Burton, Jaws, Olympus Has Fallen, Out of Darkness

A24
Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week
The Iron Claw: One to prepare the tissues for, Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson lead this biopic of the Von Erich wrestling family, which was called “powerfully acted and profoundly sad” by Rotten Tomatoes.
The Iron Claw follows the siblings as they strive to achieve success that their father groomed them for in the early 1980s, while they are beset by tragedy.
Efron in particular drew huge acclaim for his turn as Kevin Von Erich, with many suggesting he was snubbed by the Oscars for his performance. You can judge for yourself, with the movie streaming now on BBC iPlayer.

GoldenEye: While we await the next Bond movie (and the identity of the next 007), what better time to revisit a 1990s classic that started it all for a previous franchise star.
Pierce Brosnan’s debut takes place in the wake of the Soviet Union’s collapse, as he races to stop a past ally from using a satellite weapon to cause a worldwide financial meltdown.
Also featuring Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco and Famke Janssen, DS called GoldenEye Brosnan’s best (and the fifth-best Bond movie overall), saying that it helped the spy “to regain his relevance and cool”. It also inspired one of the best action video games ever made.
Also new to BBC iPlayer this week: The Suicide Squad, Mamma Mia!, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Merchant Ivory/Goldcrest
Best movie new to Channel 4 this week
A Room With a View (1985): This acclaimed romance drama is based on EM Forster’s novel of the same name, and features a packed cast of familiar names – not least Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Simon Callow and Daniel Day-Lewis.
Boasting a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes too, the Merchant Ivory movie was called an “outstanding period piece” by Tampa Bay Times.
The story focuses on a young woman called Lucy Honeychurch who is caught in a love triangle between George Emerson, a free-spirited man she meets in Florence, and Cecil Vyse, a stuffy but rich man in England.
Also new to Channel 4 this week: How to Have Sex, Lola (2022), Brian and Charles, Moon, Sisu
