From my understanding, the BRCA gene doesn’t guarantee you’ll have cancer but it greatly increases the odds. It’s very brave of women who choose to do this as a preventative.

My grandma is a breast cancer survivor and had a double mastectomy during chemo and radiation. It was awful on her and the skin around her new breasts are thin. She’s so strong and has been cancer free for over a decade.

I am glad she has such good spirits about it!

As someone with BRCA2 who went through a preventative double mastectomy and reconstructive d’flap with a lot of complications I hope she is recovering well!

    4. To all my lovely women in this thread:

Please know that the BRCA gene mutation can also result in higher risk for Ovarian/Fallopian Cancer (they are considered to be one in the same now).

However, many Ovarian Cancers are also non-BRCA.
