The posts were shared as the clock struck midnight in California, which was 8am UK time. The first post, which contained the mistake, showed 12 pictures of the couple on the dance floor. The second post showed 12 pictures from their wedding day, including a few from the venue, guests in attendance and the singer Sir Elton John.

As it was uploaded, the first post’s caption read: “Either years ago today… [gold-moon emoji].”

The caption was quickly corrected just minutes later and now reads, “Eight years ago today…[gold-moon emoji].”

Meghan’s second post, with pictures from the day, had the same caption, but was followed with a sun emoji instead of the moon – likely representing pictures from the day and night on May 19, 2018.

The couple’s wedding took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor and was attended by members of the Royal Family.

This included the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the now-King Charles – who walked his daughter-in-law down the aisle – and the now-Prince and Princess of Wales.

Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior working royals in early 2020, with them moving to the US just weeks after with their son.

The couple later welcomed their second child, a daughter, in June 2021.
