Ah yes, the restaurant based on exploiting gluttony trying to shame others for being greedy. Isn’t that something.

A former shopping strip here got knocked down and replaced with luxury apartments. We were confused on how McDonald’s said the lease was too high.

A local diner with decades of history just closed down because they don’t want to up their prices to afford the new lease.

The amount of greed and demand for more money is hurting many.

      Edit: Not a Vegas resident

I mean this as a genuine question, what exactly was the “soul” of Las Vegas before? Bc I’ve always thought of it consumerism as the defining feature of Vegas, am I wrong in that?

it’s been corporate greed before the owner of that restaurant was born. Its nothing new, sadly

I am surprised it lasted so long. The owner seemed like a performance artist and very theatrical and the concept was definitely interesting, but I feel like in the age of Ozempic it’s not profitable.

It is funny because they only served burgers, shakes, and fries made with lard so their “vegan menu” was just unfiltered cigarettes.

      Humane greed = 👍 (acceptable)

It was on Fremont street, and when I went to Fremont street in December it was an incredibly depressing place.

90% of people in this thread just saying “but Las Vegas was already about greed”.

it’s completely changed, me and my sister went to Vegas 20 years ago and had the best time, it was sleazy ahd sketchy but so fun and cheap if you like that kind of thing, we didn’t really gamble and went to dirt cheap shows every nighf, got meals for like 5 bucks and you could get wasted for 10 dollars. My friend went this year and said it’s super expensive now and exclusive and reminds him of Dubai more than the sin city of old. Yes it’s always been about greed but it used to be a place working class people could mess about and have a great time for not much money, now it’s another exclusive location for the few people with money to spare, it sucks.

Vegas has decided to cater to the rich and ultra rich. Where it was once a destination for middle income people, it no longer is designed for them. Vegas tourist numbers are down significantly, but revenues are up. The calculous has been made, rich people spend more money. The concentration of wealth is getting to an unsustainable point, Vegas being one of the first shoes to drop.

I always wanted to go there but hadn’t made it to Vegas in 20 years. I’ve been priced out, sadly.

    11. Um, where the hell have the owners been for the last 25 or so years?

      Vegas is ALL corporations!!!

    12. >over 350 lbs eats free

how does this work in USA? I’d imagine people are eating here constantly

I’m in Vegas twice a year every year for over a decade. When I first went, we were already entering the corporate greed era, but it’s wasn’t horrific.
Friendlier staff, more comps, cheaper table games, could always get a free room somewhere.
Not like it wasn’t at all before, but it’s a complete a cash grab in every aspect today. Mandatory side bets on games (that never hit,) inflated table game prices, food is insanely expensive, and rooms + resort fees are a killer.

Bring back Mob Vegas. At least they knew hospitality.

ETA: they wouldn’t even give me a redbull at Caesars casinos while gambling anymore. Like what the fuck. Had to be a platinum member.

    14. They blew all their money trying to sue the 2nd Avenue Deli over The Triple Bypass sandwich.

    15. “Wait, Vegas is just the embodiment of corporate greed?”

      “Always has been”

    16. Went to eat here once because we saw it on Fremont or wherever it is and read about it here. I couldn’t believe how expensive it was. Think like $50 for a burger, shake and fries. And it wasn’t even good. Talk about corporate greed lol.

Some very weird takes ITT. To just say “they were always greedy” is absurd. Vegas **used** to be the place where lower & middle-class alike could go for a few days and live it up on a relatively small budget. Once the bean counters started swallowing everything up it became about $65 a night resort fees & $30 cheeseburgers.

While I agree vc killed the Vegas star. So to did the proliferation of online gambling and the trump musk economy.

      >”Las Vegas has priced the regular middle-class person out of the opportunity of having a good time,” Basso responded when reached by email. “Our customer base [is] predominantly regular people. The Heart Attack Grill needs to move to a new location.”

He’s not wrong. Bright sun travels on YouTube did a recent video about the cost for a short trip. What he found was that it was absurdly expensive for something very basic. Especially the food.

Well, there goes my BIL’s 15 minutes of fame being in their promotional video (for being over 400lbs and getting on the scale inside the restaurant to get his meal free)
