The film will trace the origin and evolution of Betty Boop through the perspective of her creator, Max Fleischer, examining the relationship between the artist and his creation as he navigates the creative and commercial pressures of building one of the world’s first animated icons, particularly as that icon begins to take on a life of its own.

It marks Betty Boop’s first theatrical motion picture appearance in a starring role since the 1930s, when she emerged from Fleischer Studios’ groundbreaking “Talkartoons” series to become the first and only animated independent female movie superstar of her era.

“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche,” Brunson wrote in a statement. “She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century. After Erin and I met with Mark and learned more about his grandfather’s creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell. One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself.”

Added Mark Fleischer: “When Quinta first approached me with the unique concept of a movie about the relationship of my grandfather, Max Fleischer, and his creation, Betty Boop, I was breathtaken. Quinta so embodies Betty’s love of life, intelligence, humor, sassiness and compassion that the relationship between her as Betty and Max burst into life at its mere mention.”

    1. Max Fleischer and Fleischer Studios were so ahead of their time, I can’t wait to see what kind of movie this is and Quinta Brunson is incredibly talented.

Can’t wait for the white incels to freak out over the race of a fictional character that they couldn’t have cared less about before a black woman got involved.

But anyway… just realizing how much Betty Boop has a Josephine Baker vibe? Now i’m gonna go do some wikipedia diving.

I love Quinta so much, but I feel worried about her having to deal with the plethora of white chuds that have NEVER cared about Betty Boop that are suddenly gonna be very anal about “casting” (despite the fact that betty boop was inspired by a black woman)

omg i never would have thought of this but she really is the perfect person to play betty boop, i can’t wait to see it!

GOOD BECAUSE BETTY BOOP WAS BASED ON A BLACK WOMAN AND SHE WAS RIPPED OFF

The description says she’s starring, but is she actually going to play Betty? I know this seems pedantic but I’m hoping we don’t get any backlash about this project before it’s even fully realized. Is Quinta the voice of the cartoon? An actual Betty Boop character? Is she going to play the woman who inspired the creator? Is she going to play a journalist who interviews the creator? We don’t even know and I’m already bracing for racist yelling about it.

I just want to have a nice movie to look forward to without racist screaming about it before a frame is filmed 😫😫😫😫

    9. I always wanted Ruth Negga as Betty Boop but I will *happily* take Quinta too because she’s sooooo good. Also ecstatic that it’s gonna be by Fleischer too!
