Mihai and Lisbet Gheorghiu, a Romanian-Norwegian Pentecostal couple, move with their five children from Romania to Norway after Mihai's parents die, seeking closeness to Lisbet's family, who share their faith. Settling in an isolated coastal village, they form a bond with their neighbors, the Halbergs. When their daughter Elia appears at school with bruises, suspicions arise about the family's strict religious upbringing. Fjord explores clashing worldviews, conformity, tolerance, and the boundaries of freedom and intimacy.

I thought this was a real photo of the family. The movie was based on or something, did not recognize Stan at all
Grand Prix with Sentimental Value last year and Palme d’Or with Fjord this year….Renate 🫶
No longer seemingly Bald Sebastian Stan
Congrats!
And wow they’ve done a really good job of making Stan look like an ordinary family man off the street rather than his eye wateringly handsome self.
Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan together in a Mungiu film…ughh that cast alone is worth the ticket
Is it too soon to launch my Sebastian Stan Oscar campaign ? He was so good in A different man and the Apprentice, I just know he will get it one day
TIL Sebastian Stan was also born and partially raised in Romania.
When Romanian New Wave hit 15 years ago, like 4 months, 3 weeks 2 days etc, I remember thinking “you know we have a big American movie star playing a Marvel superhero right now who is literally a Romanian native and speaks it fluently. I wonder if he’ll ever get to make a Romanian movie with Mungiu, because that would eat.”
Sebastian Stan is such a reliable and interesting actor. He has good taste when it comes to what he chooses and manages to do it all (marvel, indie, Oscar fodder, etc) while being liked and fairly private. I’ve been a fan for years and can trust the movie will at least be interesting and he’ll do well.
This film tackles an interesting debate that’s going on in Norway. The country has been incredibly generous in allowing in immigrants and refugees but some groups have formed semi-self isolated groups within the country, ignoring Norwegian laws around civil liberties and education. There’s been a lot of discussion around how to handle this while allowing religious freedom and differences in culture.
can’t wait to see this. all hail renate
this already look like a strong oscar contender
As a Romanian I STAN!!!!
Well she is the worst person in the world so expect anything
The plot is based on real facts: 10 years ago, the neo-protestant family Bodnariu has seen all their five children, including a baby, being confiscated by the Barnevernet, on a wrong suspicion of bad parental treatment.
The film presents the dilemma of conflicting moral values and of the intolerance of progressive societies.
These type of movie is important but I can’t watch them they make me very sad I gotta watch happy stuffs or I get too sad
