There’s generally not much of a line when I go but if I do have to wait, I’m waiting in line to not have to talk to anyone when I’ve only got a few things. Also self checkout is never more crowded than staffed checkout from my experience.

The most “my boomer coworker reposting shit on Facebook” joke I’ve seen in a while

I only use self checkout. But I also used to be a cashier so I’m pretty fast at it.

It is a little diabolical that stores made customers do more and somehow passed it off as a benefit to said customers

Self checkout is a lot faster and convenient, imo.

The only times I don’t use it is if any items I have needs a cashier to apply a sales discount, or if the self checkout area doesn’t allow carts.

Call me a germaphobe but I kinda like the fact that a stranger isn’t touching on my food like they used to when self checkout wasn’t a thing. I seem to remember waiting in lines more with my mom at groceries when it was all cashiers, especially when they had to make change/accept checks/coupons and didn’t have it all automated with a computerized register.

There’s a plus and a minus to all big social changes is what I’m saying I guess.

    7. Crazy how many people in here are hating on self checkout.

For one thing, I think a lot of people consider not having to interact with someone enough of a benefit to use it.

For another, almost nobody’s forcing you to use it?? I’m sure there are a few places that only have self checkout, but I’ve never seen one personally. If it makes you so mad, go spend twice as long going through a normal checkout.

at least here, self checkouts are up to 15 items, so they tend to be quicker either way

regular cashiers are for bigger carts. also they offer bill payments as well, so people tend to bring their utilities and whatnot to pay during their groceries. that makes the whole thing take longer
