Convicted murderer Mackenzie Shirilla hoped Kim Kardashian might come to her rescue—but it doesn’t seem likely.
In a jailhouse phone call from an unknown date obtained by People, the 21-year-old whose case is the subject of the new Netflix documentary The Crash told an unidentified acquaintance, “I’m real nervous and I want Kim Kardashian to be my lawyer.” But not long after the phone call came to light, a source close to the 45-year-old reality star told TMZ that Shirilla’s case doesn’t fall within Kardashian’s purview.
“Kim advocates for criminal justice reform by supporting individuals she believes were wrongfully convicted, as well as people within the prison system who have demonstrated rehabilitation and deserve a fair second chance. This case does not fall within her focus,” said the source.

Shirilla is currently serving two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life after she was convicted of multiple charges including murder and aggravated vehicular homicide. The charges stem from a July 2022 incident during which a then-17-year-old Shirilla drove her car into a brick wall at nearly 100 miles per hour, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo, 20, and friend Davion Flanagan, 19. Shirilla, who was interviewed for the Netflix documentary, maintains that she has no memory of the incident and that she passed out due to a medical condition before the crash.
In the jailhouse phone call, Shirilla and her friend discussed the media attention around the case. “Well maybe Kim Kardashian’s seen,” said Shirilla.
“Yeah, maybe Kim will, now that it’s, like, all over. I was like, I mean, that’s the only thing that might be good about the whole media thing. Maybe Kim will see it,” replied the other person on the call.
Later in the conversation, the friend said, “We’re gonna have her get you out,” to which Shirilla replied, “Tell her I buy all her SKIMS and I only wear SKIMS.”
