All-natural swimmer Hunter Armstrong wanted to prove that he could compete against “enhanced” swimmers at the inaugural Enhanced Games, which allow competitors to use performance-enhancing drugs.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist says he competed in the PED-friendly Enhanced Games because he needed money to pursue another Olympic run.

    1. What a garbage sports competition! Feels more like a competition between pharmaceuticals than actual athletes.

So this thing is just rich people putting on a show of freaks for their amusement. They don’t give a shit about those people and the damage this shit does to their bodies, they just want some hunger game spectacle.

    3. They should have had “enhanced” labeled suits for the juiced guys and “natty” labeled suits for the natural guys.

Makes sense when you think about it – no top level athlete is going to ruin their legitimate career by openly admitting to taking PEDs. So all the “enhanced” athletes in this are not going to be people with promising chances in regulated sports. This is a bunch of amateurs on roids competing against an actual pro Olympic-level athlete

So they get to use testosterone but fuck trans people who need it lmao. I am very well aware testosterone can be used to treat many things, but I am so so sick of seeing hormone therapies used freely by cis folks and my trans friends are fighting to survive. Fuck this.

im not at all surprised by this. Like even people who use PEDs would still say you need to train a ton. What non-olympic caliber (because if you are you’re not going to get on gear just for funsies) athletes are going to dedicate a full schedule to swimming and taking steroids?

Point being, PEDs can only add so much of an advantage, and my guess is if you’re doing these events you’re not a top competitor, so when a top competitor comes along, they win.

    7. As another Berkeley alum (Go Bears!), I was stoked about this, until I learned that he wore a hydrophobic suit that has been banned in regular competition for years. So he was still “enhanced,” just by equipment, not drugs.

The viral story of his win also contributes to the popularity of these games, which is an even bigger win for its backers: Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr., among others. 😬

    8. Imagine publicly admitting you’re not a good enough athlete without drugs. That’s humiliating in itself.

hahaha the rich, unathletic, soulless weirdos who bankrolled this can suck it

    10. To throw your career away by taking PEDs and not even break a record seems pointless to the nth degree

It’s all so unimpressive. Where’s the entertainment in watching a bunch of mid athletes give a mid performance while roided out?

This right here is one of two things:

A complete waste of money that will completely lose interest by the end of the run, or mid way through a second season, and people realize overall that steroids don’t replace skill, just the amount of time it takes for certain muscle mass to accrue.

      Or

The tragic and embarrassing beginnings of athletes training with steroids from the start of their careers as children, “doing them smart” and promoting a new wave of steroid abuse across the United States, and apparently the world.

Armstrong last name is enough of a chef’s kiss in such a competition that he was able to strong arm his opponents without juice ha

Would be soul crushing to know that even on steroids you still can’t win.
