Celebrities truly are always a step ahead of us regular folk when it comes to fashion. Here’s a look at what trends you might see this summer and which celebs have been rocking them as of late.
Sheer cutouts
Colorful dresses with sheer cutouts are everywhere this season, with celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Cardi B leading the pack. Dua Lipa opted for a purple corset dress with a sheer skirt at Cannes Film Festival on May 15, and Sabrina Carpenter stunned in a very trendy butter yellow sheer gown at the 2027 Dior Cruise Collection show. Their choices may mean summer will bring style — and a little skin.
Shades of red
Neutrals are out, and eye-popping colors are in — especially red. From Lauren Alaina’s sparkly off-the-shoulder deep red gown at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards to Eva Longoria’s maroon cutout ensemble at Cannes, all shades of red are in. Another notable red ensemble was one of Alix Earle’s best looks at this year’s Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix: a short red leather dress with a side bow, paired with maroon pumps. My personal favorite? Tiffany Haddish’s plunging red midi dress with red appliques for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit carpet.
Business casual
Celebs might not have corporate jobs, but they sure dress like they do, and I am so here for it. Taylor Swift stepped out in New York City in an office-ready ensemble on May 14, with a button-up white collared shirt, thin black belt and stone-colored trousers. Rihanna nailed her own professional attire look while grabbing dinner with friends May 7, wearing a green blazer, simple blue jeans and some work-ready black loafers. Even her maroon purse could fit a laptop or notebook if needed. Celebrities’ style is loud and clear: Business casual is everything right now.
Ladies in leather
While leather might not seem like a summer-friendly material, celebrities are forgoing your typical linen and cotton for leveled-up leather looks. Lindsay Lohan wore a black leather midi dress with a high leg slit to the Gucci Cruise 2027 fashion show May 16, while Brooke Shields opted for a medium brown midlength dress with black accents and, of course, some chic sunglasses while stepping out in New York City on May 18. Even Tom Brady is getting in on the trend — the former QB strutted his stuff on the Gucci runway in an all-black leather outfit.
Polka dots
If there’s one trend that’s here to stay, it’s polka dots. Hailey Bieber donned a red top with small black polka dots in an Instagram selfie while Olivia Rodrigo opted for a midlength black and white polka dot skirt and black top while in Barcelona, Spain. Polka dots are also in every store right now, so it’s both easy and affordable to dress like your favorite celebrity.
