ALS is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, per the Mayo Clinic. The disease leads to muscle weakness and other symptoms that get worse over time and currently has no cure.

Several celebrities have recently gone public with their ALS battles, with “90 Day Fiancé” star Jenny Slatten sharing her diagnosis last week.

“Grey’s Anatomy” actor Eric Dane passed away in February, 10 months after announcing his own diagnosis.
