This is so fucking dumb. Patagonia is first and foremost a region in South America. This brand doesn’t own the name

Idk what damage to a brand they think Pattie Gonia could possibly do. I didn’t associate the name with the brand before, but I certainly do now. Absolutely asinine lawsuit.

Pattie Gonia only filed her trademark in September 2025. This idea that “they have known about me for 8 years, why are they doing this now?” is disingenuous given that Pattie Gonia filed her trademark application less than a year ago. More specifically, Pattie Gonia applied for a trademark to use on clothing and marketing.
Patagonia has a good suit, given how the names sound indistinguishable from one another.

Patagonia the company its effectively being run like a holding company looking to make a quick buck, from actually a few years before the founder stepped down because they were bringing on people from Walmart and Amazon in leadership positions to emulate how those companies operate. The products have declined in quality, worker benefits and perks have been slashed, layoffs, RTO mandates, all the best worst practices of capitalism are what Pata is all about these days.

Patagonia the brand is insane for this. Because like, that’s the name of a region…

Its kind of odd bc like on one hand, right, this is the core of Drag naming conventions. It’s stupid to us. But it also tracks for a company thats money hungry, and who stole its name from a whole region in the first place.
That also being said I’m surprised they did this before partnering w her first. They’ve always played to the more progressive and climate aware. Why sue? Is it bc she decided to trademark? Pattie has money, so I wonder how this will go.

For her to say this is not a brand conflict is 100% a lie, given that she apparently applied for a trademark to use on clothing.
This is 100% a brand conflict, despite how she is trying to frame it.

They’re suing because Pattie’s logo on merchandise being sold looked too close to Patagonia’s specific logo. It seems like the company is being overly litigious or obnoxious about the word “Patagonia” but they have to defend their trademark or they risk losing it. Same thing with smuckers suing Trader Joe’s over their peanut butter jelly sandwich whatever product, the packaging was too similar and smuckers had to defend their trademarks.

If Dove chocolate and Dove soap can coexist, so can they. They are clearly distinct.
