It feels like she’s trying to pretend she’s too cool to wear a helmet, lol. You only get one brain, i have a horror story about a coworker who didn’t wear a helmet…

    2. I mean it sort of makes sense in TLH because Carlsen keeps bringing up that her cycling is unsafe cos there aren’t cycle paths and he worries about her.

That said I have no issues with helmets in films/shows. Being safe isn’t bad.

I get so aggro when I see cyclists without helmets. I had a bad bike accident in college and ended up knocked unconscious in the street. Since then I always wear a helmet and do not care how it looks and I’ve been knocked off my bike twice by cars since with only minor injuries.

I was in a bike accident and you know the first question the EMTs, nurse, and doctor asked me?!

My sister is an organ donation nurse and could tell you a million different reasons to wear a helmet, dorky or not.

    6. I have a close friend who survived a car hitting him on his bike when he was bike messengering in Seattle. He still lost half his bottom lip and a chunk each of shoulder and cheek but the helmet saved his brain. PLEASE wear a helmet when cycling.

Not even 15 minutes ago, I watched my 4 year old daughter’s head bounce off the pavement after she fell off her bike. I also hate the hassle of helmets but just imagining that moment WITHOUT her helmet gives me the heebie jeebies. We will ALWAYS wear them!!

Honestly? Nothing hotter than having a good enough brain to feel it is worth protecting.

    9. 2 weeks after moving to my neighburhood, a kid from around the corner died after he fell off his bike and had a catastrophic head injury. i watched him and his cousins go past my house from the window and worried they’d try bombing down the big hill we live on top of. it turned out his cousins egged him on and he took the dare only to lose control and crash. absolutely devastating, and now I yell at kids and adults in the community to wear helmets. I can’t stand people who think wearing a helmet is uncool. Not the message to send lily

I got a concussion at age 12 that the ER docs said would be worse if I had not worn a helmet. I was hit by a car 20 months ago, and ended up with a fucked up hip and a fractured pelvis, and again, would not be here today if I wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time. Why the fuck would you not wear one?!

I think they could have found a less-dorky helmet, but then it probably would have blocked her face a bit, and you can’t have that in a movie!

My brother was skateboarding without a helmet. He got hit by a car, went into a coma for a while, and died. A whole brother I never got to know because he died before I was old enough. I’m not saying a helmet would have for sure saved him but it couldn’t have made it any worse.

    13. I’m a producer and pretty sure SAG mandates wearing them in films as they’re mandated in my commercials

    14. I work in this department for TV. You have to promote safety in a lot of areas, it’s not a fashion choice and literally needs to be cleared before airing.

I didn’t even notice the helmet in Off Campus. Are people really that worked up over it?

    16. Bicycle helmet laws exist so that politicians can dust their hands and say “I did my part for safety” without actually doing anything meaningful to improve infrastructure for active mobility.

If you’re in Amsterdam or Copenhagen or anywhere with *proper* bicycling infrastructure, the only helmets are on the heads of athletes who are out their riding a bike for bike riding’s sake, not the people who are riding their bikes to get around.

This is not to say that a bike helmet isn’t better than no bike helmet. It’ll save your scalp, maybe your skull, and the newest and best ones (MIPS) might even be able to mitigate your concussion too. But people really preach like wearing a helmet is going to make a difference when that ram 2500 is liquefying your organs, when the only way to make that difference is to isolate active transportation users from motor traffic.

So yeah, wear your helmet and put the helmet in your TV show but lets not let the pretty white helmet distract us from REAL SAFETY.

My dad has a TBI because he didn’t wear a helmet. It’s impacted our entire family.

Always wear a helmet. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET
