she was so proud of and excited about Wicked, i hate that the experience was ruined for her.

I really hope it’s a case of “yeah, I’ve said so much already, let’s focus on something else” and not a “I now look back on it negatively and would rather not think about it anymore”. She was great in that movie, and as far as I am aware, the press tour for it was very positive. I hope that the negativity from online comments has not ruined her experience making and promoting it

yall bullied her relentlessly during wicked & now want her to be grateful to reflect on that time. and the crazy part is she was nothing but unproblematic & magnificently talented when it came to wicked.

I don’t really follow her, is there something else she is promoting right now? Because it’d make sense to not want to keep focusing on Wicked now that both those movies have long been released and wrapped up, but not sure what else she wants to focus on if she is getting interviewed without any active projects… A quick search didn’t really turn up anything.

Boy am I happy that those movies have already worked themselves out of the current cultural zeitgeist

Journalism with actors promoting roles and doing press has become a mess.
We see actors continued to get asked about previous roles while promoting new stuff. Ex: Rege Jean Page is still being asked about Bridgerton 6 years later.
You also see interviewers ask every celebrity about heated rivalry even if they are promoting their own new show.
Unfortunately for Cynthia, the general population knows her for Wicked and she’s going to get asked about it. Her team may be able to limited it but she will continued to be asked until she is truly associated with another role. I don’t envy these actors during their press junkets answering the same questions over and over again…but that also means success and a million girls would happily be sitting where she is right now.

I can’t imagine what it must be like to take on a taxing, legacy role like Elphaba, investing years of your life emotionally and physically into the character, knowing hundreds of thousands of people hold her story near and dear to their hearts; then when the time finally comes to show the world the results, the public summarizes it to same worn out joke over and over while making a mockery of your appearance, relationship to costars, and overall performance. I’m not surprised she was bothered and asked to move on.

I understand that she’s in this “wicked bubble” but Wicked: For Good hasn’t even been out for a full year, barely even 6 months. It seems pretty understandable that it’s still on peoples’ minds

She’s just realizing how out of touch she was in that timeframe and is embarrassed. Cope

She was treated horribly by fans throughout the entire 2 Wicked movies. The industry also didnt give her the praise and recognition she deserved.

I mean thats what happens when you decide to star in a very well known film adaptation of a musical and book. What did you expect? That youd be able to move on from it right away? Has the Friends cast moved on from it? Or the Twilight cast? Hell, had the Lord of the Rings cast or Harry Potter cast?
Thats the tradeoff for such a big role.

Could someone please share what they know about her experiences with Wicked? I get the sense that it brings up bad feelings for her and I am wondering why.

I appreciate this because they beat us over the head with promotions (not the cast- the studio) enough that if I’d walked past a box of Wicked Tampax, I wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised.

Kind of weird to agree to do an interview about your past work and then not want to talk about your past work.

The amount of hate, racism and misogyny are faced during wicked was terrible. She has every right to not answer the questions and take about her other projects. I’m proud of her for standing her ground and establishing those boundaries

This woman is immensely talented and she’s done so many different projects. Yes, please talk to her and ask her about other things. This is a Tony winner and an Oscar nominee and someone who has been acting for a long time, she’s been doing interesting stage projects, and other films. She even did a memorable appearance on Poker Face, so there’s even a little TV there.
Yes, she spent a couple of years of her life where most were focused on Wicked. She was an amazing choice for the role. And now we can talk about other things.

Does she not have PR to handle this ahead of time this just makes her look unappreciative about probably her biggest moment in her career. When’s she’s doing comiccons in the future that’s all she’s going to talk about.
I don’t blame press because it’s their job to generate clickable moments on the internet that people want to see and wicked is probably the biggest thing people would be interested in.
