Joan Baez calls out artists who avoid political activism: “Some are writing amazing stuff, a few are willing to speak out… I sort of cock my head at these stadiums filled with brilliant, young women songwriters & why can’t they just take that little step? Cause they’re already richer than God.”

Why are so many people willing to say it but not? It’s Taylor Swift. She’s previously dipped her toes in liberalism and now want to toe the line. Her fans hide behind her previous notions but her current lack of even a modicum of push back is disgusting. Her lack of any political stance is a stance, now more than ever.

Taylor is absolutely a coward, especially considering her massive wealth. But I don’t think it’s fair to single her out when there are plenty of rich male pop stars who are also very comfortable being silent. Every single one of them – male and female – should be called out for their silence, not just Taylor.

“But then it puts a target on her” as if us common folk aren’t dying daily because this administration has put targets on us. She is richer than God, has a 24/7 security team, has die hard stans that will defend anything she does or says. This isn’t a matter of safety it’s a matter of cowardice.

Literally please just start using Taylor Swift’s NAME. She doesn’t deserve to be coddled she is a mediocre billionaire who cultivated a cult i mean fanbase.

If Fiona Apple can use her platform and she rarely goes outside or has social media. Someone who pretends to be as chronically online as Taylor Swift IS should be doing better and know better.

But it doesn’t suit her bottomline.

    5. Joan is the real deal. Saw her at the Tesla Takedown protests in Palo Alto and some of the other protests locally, including the downtown Mountain View protest/rally where she brought her guitar and sang. She said that she was asked by a reporter about the difference between today’s protests and the 60’s and replied that the 60’s “were a fucking garden party” in comparison.

    6. I agree with her 100%, but it should also be noted that young women singer-songwriters have been much more outspoken than young men with similar profiles.

We know who’s getting called out here but this could sum about 99% of the music industry. Nobody stands for anything anymore and it’s a big reason why the media has brainwashed half the country. Look at the artists of Joan’s generation; Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin.. Not only were they artists but they were all political activists in their own right during their heyday. Hell even Sinatra refused to stay in hotels that didn’t allow Sammy Davis Jr to also stay. These things would be unheard of today.. Instead we get preformative milquetoast activism. Taylor Swift making a political documentary and then staying silent as her precious Chiefs fund anti trans laws in Missouri. Beyoncé at a Kamala rally warning about fascism then going to dinner with the Kushners. Today’s “artists” care about nothing but money and the privilege it allows them. The death of the artist with morals is a huge contributing to the fascism we face.
