The White House uses new Boards of Canada track for promo video · News ⟋ RA”Deep Time” was used as the soundtrack to a 15-second clip the Trump administration shared to X today.
The White House has used a Boards of Canada track in a new promotional video.
Posted to X today, May 28th, by the Trump administration, the 15-second clip features “Deep Time,” which was taken from the duo’s forthcoming album Inferno. The video shows dramatic military imagery edited in the style of a cinematic teaser trailer.
Comments underneath the video were predictably scathing, with Boards of Canada fans angrily demanding the duo’s music isn’t used for “authoritarian fascist bullshit” and “zoomer edit fake patriot slop.” Another X user described President Trump as “posting movie trailers for World War III like he’s running a Michael Bay fan account.”
Others questioned the legality of The White House using Boards of Canada’s music, presumably without permission. Artists including The White Stripes, Isaac Hayes and Eddy Grant have previously sued the Trump administration for using their music in campaign videos without permission. Others—such as Rihanna, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones, ABBA, Pharrell Williams and Queen—have issued cease-and-desists or publicly threatened legal action.
In a statement sent to Resident Advisor, Warp Records said that neither the label nor Boards of Canada “condone the unauthorised use of their music for political messaging.”
Inferno is out tomorrow, May 29th. Listening parties will take place in over 100 record shops across the world this evening, from London, Glasgow and Dundee to Bordeaux, Braga, Vancouver and Osaka.

Correction, May 28th: An earlier edition of this article said that “Introit” was the track used in the video.
