A year after Fox News tried and failed to convince its viewers—and the rest of the country—to turn away from the “Superman” movie for being too pro-immigrant, the right-wing propaganda network is now taking aim at the upcoming “Supergirl” movie for being too feminist.
Writer Ian Miller complains that actor Milly Alcock, who stars as the iconic superhero, has made “divisive” comments that will turn off moviegoers.

“Hollywood has been dedicated to infusing politics into its movies at every opportunity, including into superhero movies and films targeted to children,” Miller wrote.
Alcock’s sin? In a Vanity Fair interview in March, she discussed sexist complaints about fantasy and science-fiction franchises with women in prominent roles.
“It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,” she told the outlet. “We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”
This isn’t something Alcock made up. “Star Wars” had to deal with this phenomenon after the franchise featured prominent female characters—like Rey Skywalker and Rose Tico—after decades of focusing on white, male characters.
More recently, billionaire and Trump pal Elon Musk had a meltdown, along with other conservatives, after director Christopher Nolan cast Black and trans actors in his adaptation of “The Odyssey.”

In his Fox piece, Miller claims that there are already warning signs of impending box office doom for “Supergirl,” including “underwhelming trailers.”
But fans seem plenty interested in the trailers, with the first garnering more than 24 million views on YouTube and the second topping 27 million views at the time of this writing.
Miller rehashes Fox’s complaints about last year’s “Superman” release, which the network attacked after director James Gunn noted that the story—about an alien arriving on Earth to improve the United States and the world—mimics the immigrant experience of millions living in the country.
And despite claims that this rhetoric would hurt the film at the box office, “Superman” topped the charts at No. 3 at the domestic box office in 2025, coming in behind “A Minecraft Movie” and “Lilo & Stitch.”

In fact, “Superman” is now in the top 100 highest-grossing movies of all time.
By contrast, Melania Trump’s documentary “Melania” was touted by Fox and didn’t even come in first place at the box office the week it was released. Now it’s ranked 38th at the domestic box office for films released in 2026.
The moviegoing public didn’t listen to Fox’s demagoguery when “Superman” was released, instead lining up to watch a well-reviewed take on a classic American icon.
It remains to be seen how well “Supergirl” will perform, and while it’s unlikely to surpass “Superman,” the movie’s performance at the box office probably won’t have much to do with the lead actor’s views on sexism.
If anything, this is just the latest example of how clueless the right is when it comes to pop culture.
