Marilyn Monroe at 100

She was, and remains, one of cinema’s most brilliant stars. Norma Jeane Baker, known to the world as Marilyn Monroe, died in 1962 at age 36, but she left a legacy of classic films, fashion, and a carefully-crafted celebrity image. To mark the centenary of her birth, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is launching an exhibition, “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon.” Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with those studying the sex symbol’s life and career, and those who are preserving her film persona.

    1. People project all kinds of ideas into MM. It's gotten worse lately. I don't think she'd appreciate the statue of her in PS, she wanted to be taken seriously as a performer. And she'd probably be p.o.'d at whoever is making πŸ’΅πŸ’΅πŸ’΅ off her image with that statue as well. The costumes are interesting, I notice the mannequins they've chosen to use appear bigger than MM herself. People project onto MM what they need to believe. For example the body positivity types need to believe MM was a modern plus size, when it's been proven she was not

    2. I do Not think Anyone nor any company can actually pen an "authentic" biography of Ms.Monroe.The BEST person to do that would be herselfπŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ˜Š

    3. She was murdered. The coroner who inspected her body himself, said that there was no trace of barbiturates in her body. There was no water glass in her room – which her β€œmaid” said she had locked herself in her room for hours that night, assuming Marylin fell asleep. (Her story has changed multiple times) Marilyn was dealing with big business and big people during the 60s. The mafia boss who had a hit on her life, his nephew exposed this truth against his own blood. (That just does not happen in mafia families – period) Her over dosing might have happened in the past, but it’s not why she died.

    4. Happy Birthday Marilyn!!! We are going for Hot Fudge Sundae’s at Baskin Robbins tomorrow in honor of you. 🍨🍦❀❀❀

    5. "I paid no attention to the whistles and whoops. In fact, I didn't hear them. I was full of a strange feeling, as if I were two people. One of them was Norma Jeane from the orphanage who belonged to nobody. The other was someone whose name I didn't know. But I knew where she belonged. She belonged to the ocean and the sky and the whole world.” – Marilyn Monroe πŸ•―οΈπŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’πŸ’œπŸ¦‹

    6. She didn't overdose. The details of how it happened wasn't directly told to me but it was a read between the lines kinda answer when I asked was she killed.

    7. I was born April 1962. I have a few T-Shirts with Ms. Monroe's picture on it, and several pictures of her on my walls in my home. The pictures I purchased during thrift shopping. Both are black and white photos. One has written on it , It's All Make Believe. Wish she was still here. ❀❀❀

    8. Marilyn Monroe and Pee Wee Herman both are characters played brilliantly by actors! Yup they both fooled everyone! They both died tragically! Real.blonds didn't like the persona " dumb oversexed blond) type casting either which caused many natural blonds to go brunette! You left out the hush hush investigation into Marilyn's death! Rumours were she had planned to get even with the rich and famous for exploiting her by revealing the truth about her affair with JFK believing it would lead to marriage and alledged calls to Jackie about it. So she had to go! Now she is an icon we adore? It was all an act! A story about them both Monroe and Pee Wee would be good for 60 minutes.Theu both fooled us all.Duh!πŸ₯΄

    9. And to put the nail on the head, her crypt(where she’s buried) is dyed pink from all the kisses she still gets. It’s stands out against all the other people’s crypts which are still white.
