The Princess of Wales has arrived at a leading cancer hospital in Manchester, where she will highlight the healing power of holistic care for people living with the disease. The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, looking after more than 60,000 patients a year.
The centre offers complementary and holistic therapies, including art classes, a wellbeing garden and a chaplaincy service, to patients and carers free of charge. As an integrated part of the service, The Christie provides anxiety-related issues which can help alleviate symptoms common with diagnosis and treatment of cancer, including stress, mild to moderate depression, fear, worry and anxiety-induced nausea.
During her visit, Catherine shared an emotional moment with Claire Lorente, 30, who rang the bell to signal the end of her cancer treatment. The royal, wearing a royal blue dress, hugged and consoled Claire as she cried, telling her: “Well done… what a journey, it’s been a tough one.”
