This week officially kicked off Pride Month—and what’s more prideful than a surprise Madonna performance in the heart of New York City?
Last night, the queen of pop surprised fans with a pop-up performance in the middle of Times Square (in collaboration with the gay hook-up Grindr, natch). At precisely 6:27 p.m., amongst a sea of tourists and Madonna stans, the star emerged on a raised platform stage tucked inside one of those huge flashing billboards, where she proceeded to perform a set of six songs—including a new single, “Love Sensation,” from her highly anticipated upcoming album, Confessions II, out in July.

The pop star opened her set with her two recently-released Confessions II tracks “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Me Your Love” (there was no Sabrina Carpenter cameo, though, sadly). After debuting “Love Sensation,” Madonna then threw it back to songs from her original 2005 Confessions on a Dance Floor album, including “Get Together,” “I Love New York” (how apropos!) and “Hung Up” (duh).
Even better than having a Madonna dance party in the middle of Times Square, meanwhile? The disco-worthy fashions she wore on stage. Styled by Rita Melssen, Madonna wore a silver Gucci jacket (Frida Giannini era) from her own archive: Fans will recall she wore the piece, from resort 2006, heavily during the promo of her first Confessions album. Underneath the throwback jacket, she wore custom Dolce & Gabbana, including a pink corset, satiny blue bra, and lace briefs, as well as silver laced-up knee boots and satiny tights. Swarovski jewelry gave it a superstar finish.
