Netflix is set to remove 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, the Jane Austen adaptation starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Brenda Blethyn, Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, Jena Malone, Tom Hollander, Penelope Wilton and the legendary Judi Dench.

The star-studded romantic period drama will be leaving the streaming service on Saturday, 20 June.

And it’s bad news, as it’s not currently part of any other streaming subscription service. However, you can buy the film digitally from Prime Video and Apple TV for just £2.99, which is only 50p more than the cheapest digital rental price.

The film tells the classic story of the Bennet sisters, whose parents are eager to marry them into suitably wealthy families, although they wish to wed for love.

Main sister Elizabeth catches the eye of multiple potential suitors, including Mr Darcy. They’re a match made in heaven, in that they’re both very judgemental of each other…

Due to the starry cast and aiming for a younger, mainstream audience, the film was a big hit, making $129 million at the box office off the back of a reported $28 million budget.

Pride & Prejudice was a big hit with critics too, sitting at 87% positive on Rotten Tomatoes from 189 reviews.

It’s also got a 90% positive score from audiences, from over 25,000 viewer ratings.

“Everything about this movie is perfect,” wrote one fan. “The soundtrack and cinematography are truly incredible and I will always say that this is my favourite adaption of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It has also been my comfort movie for the last 10 years of life.”

“This movie is unexpectedly pleasing in every way. Classic tale of Victorian era romance, magnificently directed, and flawlessly performed by a stellar cast,” wrote another, while a third said: “Left me completely spellbound! The lovely visuals, refined camera work, elegant score that enhances every moment, spot-on casting and writing, and heartfelt performances from the entire cast.”

Pride & Prejudice is streaming on Netflix until 20 June.
