Kris is polyamorous and goes by she/they pronouns, and is also an exciting new voice on the indie scene whose debut film remade Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho from the perspective of the shower curtain. The perfect choice, then, for Hollywood moguls eager to look their wokest and most elevated. What they don’t know is that Kris is an avid fan of the Camp Miasma franchise (which on Schoenbrun’s part is very believably constructed, making their later satirisation more loving than derisive), and cites the original film as her queer awakening. She’s eager to ‘beat Hollywood at its own game’, and produce a fresh entry into the franchise which interrogates ‘the intersection between queerness and cultural depictions of monstrosity.’ So, she tracks down the reclusive actor, Billy Presley (Gillian Anderson), the final girl of the original Camp Miasma film, in an attempt to cast her in the reboot.
