Back in the early 80s, Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson sounded like the same person singing the same song. They both had that two tone ska sound. iykyk
Both of them were great. Don’t remember them hating on each other for sounding exactly the same.
edit: spelling.

A punk take, as per.

It’s really just about who has more money to drown the other side in legal fees these days… or who has more fans who will harass people on their behalf at any perceived slight.
Bc so many artists could go after Taylor Swift for her songs being heavily inspired by theirs and don’t.

Elvis with another completely reasonable take.

Lest we forget that Taylor is making revenue off of Olivia’s songs by way of getting her name on the song credits. And Swifties are constantly acting like she’s the victim.

Olivia Rodrigo seems like such a cool individual anyway. Collaborating with Robert Smith has got to be one of the coolest things a pop artist has recently done, and hasn’t she done shows with David Byrne as well? I feel like she’s just a class act and super mature for her age (in the non-creepy way). It’s no wonder that someone like Elvis Costello would see her songs and be like “yeah that’s cool, I’m down” lol

I guess I can see Brutal and Pump It Up like that, but he’s definitely right.
Ironically my goat did sue for this, but The Doors were really obvious about it lol

Maybe a controversial take, but this is why the Blurred Lines decision set such a bad precedent for the music industry. All music is an iteration of another song, of a song that came before it, etc. Interpolation is one of the most misunderstood concepts in music, because so many mistake it for copyright infringement. Elvis is right for acknowledging this.

I love when artists are actually artists and want the art out there in whatever form it takes vs this whole no one ever done this before me *cough*Taylor*cough.

Hell yeah. I’d hate to be named after a song from a loser man! How did he know this world is killing me?!??!!

don’t you mean world renown art thief, Declan MacManus?

The fact that so many legends love and support Olivia really makes me happy for her

Having Costello go to bat for you is such a huge feather in her cap. It’s giving the opposite of Joni and Aretha talking about Taylor.

I appreciate this take
Someone should tell that to Taylor Swift
This is the correct way to handle this
