I think as far as tennis goes it’s easy to shot a quick congrats when competing against him or with him. It’s almost required. For other sports, who goes out of their way to congratulate someone like this

For context, two of his ex girlfriends accused him of domestic abuse. While the first girlfriend (Olga Sharypova) never sued him or took legal action but only wanted the world to know her story, the second (Brenda Patea – who’s the mother of his child) pursued legal action. At the end of the day, he settled out of court with her and the case was dismissed with no motion of innocence or guilt on his part.
Here are some of the constant gaslighting, blatantly manipulative statements he’s issued regarding the two credible domestic abuse accusations over the years:
*Anyone with a semi-decent IQ level understands what’s going on. I hope most of you guys do. I’m fine with it* (Directed at a journalist who asked a question on the trial of Brenda’s case that was scheduled to be held later that year.)
*The courts confirmed that the allegations were untrue* (When talking about Olga’s case, where she didn’t go to the court in the first place.)
*The players know what’s going on* (This was when Olga’s accusations first surfaced. Not even a single player could attest to that and everyone said they were not aware of the details of either of the cases subsequently.)
*She was the only one in that stadium who believed anything in that moment* (Talking about a woman who heckled him at AO 2025 by shouting “Australia believes Olga and Brenda” – No lil bro. There are SO many across the world who stand with Olga and Brenda)
*That’s what dropping the case is. That is innocence. They’re not going to drop the case if you’re guilty at the end of the day. Done. We move on. I never ever want to hear another question about the subject again. That goes out to everybody* (So f*cking wrong on so many levels)

This is a lying, deceiving piece of shit who also has some of the most unhinged misogynistic fans in the world. Many of them wilfully ignore the fact that it’s two different women and end up spouting the same nonsense about how he was never convicted and is therefore innocent and how the women are “gold-diggers” 🤮 The German court found so much of preliminary evidence against him in Patea’s case and ordered for him to pay a hefty fine – Which he contested, the case went to trial, and they settled out of court eventually.

Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and Joshua Kimmich ugh. I love Bayern but damn. Not almost all his ‘other sports’ athletes all playing for my favourite team at some point. If true, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Zverev’s long awaited GS win was supposed to bring him positive press coverage. Instead, sports journalists took the chance to remind the public about his violent past. I strongly suspect he’s doing this in the hopes of changing the narrative about him. One of his accusers, Olya Sharypova, is friends with his rival Daniil Medvedev’s wife. Shortly after Olya went public with her story, Zverev and Medvedev played each other and Zverev used the opportunity to call Medvedev his friend. To me, it seemed as if Zverev did so to insinuate Olya’s friends took his side. Medvedev immediately denied being friends with Zverev.

Just to add here that most of sports and tennis media refuse to even acknowledge the allegations at this point—both when they were made public, and now when he’s won a grand slam. The ATP (men’s tennis association) even included him in their Netflix series which painted him as some sort of nice guy and his opponent as a victim, like a puff piece.
I have to shout out Ben Rothenberg, the journalist who wrote Olga’s story and got sued for it. He’s the only one who continues to acknowledge it and is the reason Olga’s story was told.
Zverev continues to act like a piece of shit when asked about it and lies and says he’s been “proven innocent” when that is blatantly untrue. And fwiw, his tennis is grossly uninspiring and he’s lucky he had the easiest draw ever this tournament.

As a fan of ski racing, I was pretty disappointed when Mikaela Shiffrin even made a whole-ass post to congratulate him (on IG stories). Surprising to me considering how “rah rah girl power” the rest of her social media presence is. (Before you say “maybe she doesn’t know!”, she is extremely active online and she follows a lot of tennis-related accounts, so I’m skeptical that she has somehow never come across the stories before.)
