The Waleses are furious over the Sussexes’ latest shock move

They’re due to visit the UK next month for the launch of the Invictus Games – the first time Meghan Markle has set foot in this country for nearly four years – and sources say Prince Harry and his wife could be bringing something unexpected with them: a Netflix camera crew. But, with things between the Sussexes and the royals already fraught, the news hasn’t gone down well with the Prince and Princess of Wales.
‘William and Kate are aware Harry and Meghan have been in talks for another fly-on-the-wall project,’ an insider tells heat. ‘The idea that they could be bringing a film crew with them when they come to the UK has come as a very unwelcome surprise.’
The Sussexes famously signed a $100 million deal with Netflix back in 2020, resulting in the docuseries Harry & Meghan, in which they made a number of explosive claims about their time as senior working royals.

The couple now have a ‘first look’ deal with the streaming giant and are reportedly in talks about a new venture that could once again see them open up their lives to the cameras. We’re told that the proposed new project will centre on the Sussexes’ humanitarian work and the Invictus Games, which Harry founded to support wounded service people.
And insiders claim the prospect of another behind-the-scenes series has raised eyebrows in Palace circles, particularly those of the Prince and Princess of Wales, who are especially unhappy that the Sussexes seem to be drifting into ‘royal territory’.
‘The focus of this new show is expected to be much more heavily weighted towards their charitable work, but the reality is that cameras would still be following Harry and Meghan and documenting their lives – and William and Kate thought that chapter had largely been closed,’ says our insider.

‘William views it as a personal attack. He was under the impression that the Sussexes had chosen a different path and were focused on building their own identity outside the royal family. Instead, there is a growing sense they’re moving closer to territory traditionally occupied by the monarchy.’
The source adds that Kate, 44, feels Meghan could be the driving force behind the move. ‘Kate doesn’t really understand why Harry and Meghan work with companies like Netflix. So much has been said publicly already. Her feeling is very much, “How could they do this all over again?”’
The Sussexes have made five shows in total with Netflix. First was the six-episode Harry & Meghan, in which they gave unprecedented access to their private life and shared their largely negative experiences of life in the royal family.

While that show was a huge hit, creating headlines around the world, follow-up projects failed to reach the same heights. Those shows included Live To Lead, presented by the couple and featuring interviews with aspiring leaders, and Harry’s ‘passion project’ Polo. The Duchess’ lifestyle show With Love, Meghan was released last year, but has since been cancelled except for seasonal specials.
Despite the deal being downgraded, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed the Sussexes still ‘have things in development on the TV and film side’, including an adaptation of Carley Fortune’s romance novel Meet Me At The Lake, and No Way Out about the Afghanistan war.
But, we’re told, what audiences really want is more insight into the Sussexes’ lives, and that’s where this new fly-on-the-wall show comes in. While Harry, 41, prefers to focus on philanthropy, actress Meghan is much more Hollywood-savvy, and as heat has reported, she was ‘keen to guide Harry towards projects that could benefit the network’.

Filming for the Sussexes’ new show could begin next month once they are back in the UK to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. It’s also been reported their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, could join them.
Our insider says, ‘William and Kate aren’t exactly delighted at the prospect of the Sussexes coming to the UK with a camera crew and positioning themselves in a space that has long been occupied by the royal family. The Palace worries the lines are becoming increasingly blurred, and that’s where some of the frustration comes from. The Sussexes are no longer working royals, yet they continue to operate in a space that often looks very similar to official work. A documentary focusing on that inevitably creates comparisons.’
While the relationship between the Sussexes and royal family has been strained over recent years, Harry and Meghan are reportedly trying to make amends, with Harry publicly stating he wishes to be reunited with his family.

However, we’re told the couple’s new TV project could put a spanner in the works and spoil any potential for reconciliation that Kate – who is widely regarded as the ‘peacemaker’ – has reportedly strived for.
We’re told, ‘The view of the Palace is that every time things begin to calm down, something new emerges that puts all the wrong things back in the spotlight. The relationship between William and Harry is complicated enough without another major television project entering the picture.’
