David Oyelowo apologizes ‘unreservedly’ for comments about black Southern accents
During an interview for the One54 Africa podcast last week, co-hosts Akbar and Godfrey asked the Nigerian-British actor to showcase some of the different dialects he’s learned for screen roles. While demonstrating the black Southern accent, Oyelowo explained how he starts by using a Nigerian accent and then “you slow it down, you put a lot of slavery in there, and then you start to put a little bit of subservience in it”. But after online backlash, the 50-year-old, who rose to fame for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in the 2014 film Selma, posted a sincere apology on Instagram.

He's made his career playing iconic FBA roles. He used them for his career, but never connected that they were family of the FBA struggle. He used Black America. BLACKOUT his entire library. Just another filthy immigrant using Black America to get ahead.
Disrespecting Black Americans πΊπΈ while paid and getting well known playing Black Americans in πΊπΈ. You canβt make this up. Weβre done with outsiders culture vulturing .
It's like walking on eggshells whenever you open your mouth to say anything pertaining to the black Americans. They are so overly sensitive and reactive.
Nigeria didn't even exist when the Black American accent was being formed in the 15-1600s. Nigeria didn't become a nation until the 1960s through British Colonialism.
These immigrants constantly disrespect us. Its an insult that he was cast as MLK! This fool even spoke down on FBA, when MLK was FBA! No black American will support any film that he is in.
Ppl need to chill is a comedian ππππ
We are not them and they are not us. We didnβt get anything from Africa. π No similarities whatsoever!!
And THIS is why we are delineating.
Bruh…really?π
Is he Nigerian, or Pigmy?
So basically he bent the knee to a bunch of whiners on Twitter who have nothing better to do
